New Section to Fish Hawk (Take a Hawk Fishing)
"language, drugs, alcohol, hard on gear, no cost sharing, smoking, messy, and just plain stupid"
Half of those arent so bad imo. Kinda sounds like the ingrediants for a kickass trip up north. Who hasnt sworn up a storm after missing a fish of a life time? A few smokes..the legal or illegal kind, no biggie. A few pints if you're far enough away up north. Hard on gear, they should use their own gear. No cost sharing, messy and stupid, you're on your own there!
You're fishing, not going out for a night of dancing.
I think the biggest problems would be a meat-hunter and a conservationist hooking up.

I have had great times with total strangers over the past couple of years.
I understand that not every one rolls the same way... and I think that if you are offering a seat to a stranger or taking one... you must have some built in diplomacy. I let people know what I find acceptable and not acceptable quite quickly.
As for $... I have never, and will never take a nickle from anyone I invite. If you do, and something goes wrong, and you charged them for any thing at all... you are opening yourself up to a world of hurt.
That and, unless it is WAY out of your way and you are picking them up... what goes around should come around.
I have paid for things that I can for any one giving me a seat. I often offer $... but 0.01% take it. I have forgotten to offer $... and felt like a dork... but I PM or call them to see about getting them out in my boat to make up for it!
I will be offering open seats a lot this summer... I hope to take out as many new people as I can. That is how I learn. It is also nice to have an extra set of eyes watching for dead heads floating low in the water!!!

True...however out of all the FH guys I have gone fishing with so far have for the most part been good guys. Most of the time it's me taking guys out in my boat and of course I have rules not like I'd let a stranger bring booze in my boat, and if they are messy or doing someting I don't like I'll let'em know...if it continues the trip gets cut short and you don`t come back out.(never happend yet).Markus wrote:I'd be cautious with this idea. I've had many many strangers fish from my boat and it's not always a winning combination. You never know what you're going to get....language, drugs, alcohol, hard on gear, no cost sharing, smoking, messy, and just plain stupid are a few of the attributes you might find show up at the dock.
In a perfect world, it's a great concept. Just be cautious. Everyones expectations are very different.
You did bring up a valid point, but to me I have met more guys that I would go fishing with again rather then not...IMO, I think the pros outweigh the cons
As far as the idea...I was just thinking outloud of a way to make sharing a seat easier...must be a result of my generation, is there not just one button I can push to put a butt in the seat

Anyway I just thought maybe there might be an easier way to find people that want to go fishing on a short notice...instead of posting, sending pms back and forth, finally exchanging numbers...blah blah...with all the technology in the world there should be a tool for this (maybe there is an iPhone app:))
But`I guess it might be too much work, and as others have said... if it ain`t broke don`t fix it
Wishing I was fishing

And that's why you set the rules prior to anyone boarding your Boat.....You're the Captain and if they don't like the rules you put in place, they don't board and if they act up once you're out on the water, they get a quick escort off the boat at the nearest launch....Markus wrote:I'd be cautious with this idea. We are more then due MrJ, so yes we'll do it for sure this year. I may actually have a fishing party maybe sometime in August. All invited will have the option of pitching a tent or a sleeping bag on the basement floor for the Friday and/or Saturday as they wish.Mr.J. wrote:TAKE ME TAKE ME TAKE ME!!!!!!!!!!!Trophymuskie wrote: I know I'll be taking out some FH friends this summer as I do every year.
Please?
Also I find that even though we have not met in person or even know the real name of some, members of FH aren't really strangers.
I remember one of my best trips was when Tony was only 15 and I secretly invited him because of a last minute cancellation and I didn't want to ruffle some feathers as many were in line. But I thought it was the coolest thing that his mom came to drop him off at the launch so he can fish with a "stranger". He sure was rewarded with his 52 inch pig as well, kind of blowing my secrecy down the drain.

I am going to try and fish every single day of the season this year so a lot of short outings but I'll get a list going soon and lineup many for some muskie hunting on the O.
And Crusty you're not invited to fish lake X with me this year as you hogged all the big fish last time. LOL maybe Matt will take me up on my offer this year after seeing what he missed.
I'm so pumped for the fishing season this year it's not funny, I get the keys to my new place tomorrow and I have 3 weeks of hard work ahead of me and then the reward will be grand.
You guys should look me up on facebook, it's a great way to hook up. Saves some steps from PM on message boards.
Catch and release them all
