Stall.... Stall again Johnson 15 ..Help!

I bought a "new to me" boat this spring. came with a 2000 Johnson 15HP. First trip out started all right. Had a little trouble starting it but hey, it was the first time out. Used the trolling motor most of the day and then the trouble started getting back to shore. I could not keep the motor running. I could start it but as soon as I put it in gear and give it gas it bogs down and stalls. I can't even get it to idle by itself without it stalling after 10-15 seconds.

I changed the tank, gas, hose, spark plugs and tried again at home. Still same problem. I can start it quickly but it stalls when I leave it to idle. Bogs down and stalls in gear while giving it gas.

I have reached the limit of what I am comfy doing myself. Does this problem ring any bells.. suggestions ..best place to take it .. Anyone work on motors themselves.

Any help would really be appreciated!

I'm know mechanic but the carberator may need a good cleaning.
Google it,lots of people can do it themselves.
I see you changes the tank and hose(bulb?),will it keep running if you sqeeze the bulb keeping gas going to it?
Is your tank vented?
Normally though you can run a bit before it bogs and stalls with the above problems.
It probably is the carb.

I like zum's approach. What exactly do you mean by bogged down?

Does it sputter and die?
Does it just loose revs and die?
Burp? Spit?

Sometimes you can tell if it is getting too much gas and not enough fuel by the sound. This will help you troubleshoot.

Not enough gas or too much air, it will sputter, bounce and spit.

Not enough air or too much gas, it will just simply die after RAPIDLY loosing revs.

try a can of seafoam, if that don't work, take it to a marine mechanic

if it runs then it cant be too bad off,take it to Dave at AIM outboards on carp road and get it fixed right.

I got all sorts of good advice and suggestions.

Are you a first time boat owner? Even "seasoned" boaters forget to open the vent on the gas tank every now and then. Without any air coming into the tank to displace the gas being used, you'll create a vacuum and starve the motor of gas.

Yes, I do have the vent opened when running the motor.. Not that I did not have that problem 5 years ago with my first boat.. Vent? What vent?
