Nice carp guys............

Welcome to the St. Lawrence.

Once again Team Amigo comes through with a beast report!!!

FYI - There IS more than carp in the river, just in case you wanted to know.

Where I grew up in Pennsylvania carp were known as "Jew Fish". They were for the most part considered garbage fish and treated as such.

When I was over in Germany Blue Carp were raised in ponds as a food fish.

The first beer tent I ever walked into I saw those big industrial sized rotisseries loaded with what I thought was chicken. I'm thinking fresh roasted chicken and a Leeder Brau, however, as I got closer I saw these huge aquarium tanks full of carp and the chicken wasn't chicken.....it was carp. I looked around and everywhere I looked, Comrade was munching down on fresh rotisserie carp. Looked like they were enjoying their meal.

While stationed in Germany I ate a lot of things I never had before ............carp was NOT one of them.

When I was a kid in Gan the Carp would come into middle of town to the base of the falls below the duck pond. We'd stand up above on the train trestle with our solid glass close faced spincast outfits with wiry mono and a big "gang" hook and big weight. We'd snag the biggest one we could then hit the push button on the reel and throw the rod down to a buddy 50 feet below. Then we'd climb down the trestle and help him land it. When we had a couple big ones we'd load'em in a wagon and take'em right up the main drag to a Chinese restaurant. The old Chinaman there'd give us egg rolls, french fries and such. Our mothers would kick us out of the house at 8 in the morning and we'd come back at 5 for supper. We were always starvin...jeez that Chinese food was good....mmmmm.

Anyway nice story fellas. Very interesting read. Reminds me of that saying if life gives you lemons make lemonade. Nobody wanted Carp but they are here in numbers and quality, may as well as embrace them and make the best of it. They are probably our healthiest fishery, big fish that are a challenge to catch. Lots of technical stuff and should attract all the gear-heads with all the specialized equipment.

Stetco,

The St.Lawrence River in the Long Sault/Ingleside area. There are loads of carp all the way up the St. Lawrence. It's hardly a secret.
