Last Monday I had booked the day off to get out for some trout with S.M.05. We had two options, hit the back lakes with Mikes tinny, or hit a larger lake for lakers with a boat I had access to for the day. Mike has taken me out many-a-time, so Option 2 was elected and I was to take him out for a change. We were to hit the trail at 5:00 from my place.
On the road to our first desination "Guy's place" to pick up the Lund. Having a 3 week old new born, my best friend figured someone should get some use out of his boat. He had the batteries charged, the tank full, and the riggers mounted. We hooked up and were on the lake in 20 minutes.
Jigging was to be the first technique. The fish were 35 deeper than my last outing, and very finicky. I was able to rustle up this guy from the first stop.
We worked the spot hard and couldn't entice another bite. Off to the second spot. Working a gradual drop I hit another fish. The wind was tossing us around so no pic. Basically a twin to the first. We switch to the riggers and drag lures for a couple hours to no avail. We were 2 hours into the afternoon with empty stomachs, so we decided to pull of the lake and head back to Guy's house for some eats and a break from the scorching sun. As Guy was breaking a sweat somewhere on the Hydro lines, we were fishing out of his boat, drinking his beer, and eating some 'zaa in his garage. Life is good.
After a few slices and a pint we were back on the lake. We decied to spend our last 2 hours jigging, as it was the only productive techinique thus far. We hit another spot and it wasn't long before I was into another. After a good 7-8 minute battle, Mikey netted my third for the day.
This guy was to grace the racks of the Bradley as my dad had requested some smoked laker. The wind was twisting all around, but I was able to hold the boat pretty well with the trolling motor and we continued to work the same spot.
So another 20 minutes goes by............and yep.... my 4th........ By now Mike had perfected the rubber net and I had the 2 fish I promised my Dad.

By now it's 6:15. The end of our day as we had planned. We're just about to crank the lines in when Mike sets the hook...the drag is peeling..... yep.. Bottom....... I'm sure if I had said anything slightly sarcastic, or even anything at all, Mike would have snapped......so I kept my mouth shut...........all the while thinking... great.. time for me to catch one more........nah.... I'll just call it quits..I don't want to rub it in too bad...... So I decide to crank in and motor up past Mikes snag... I cranked and cranked to stay out of the trolling motor.......and the..... Whack..... Yep......."Get the Net Mike"......"You gotta be f***in kiddin me"...... Lucky number 7 comes over the gunnel for a quick pic. Since we were finished I figured it was safe to ask Mike for another photo.
As you'll see in the next pic....I think I have an idea how Mike was deal with the butt whoopin he was reciving....Silenting reciting in his head "haha suckah"......
Please remember folks. It's not cool to rub lotion on someone's back. It's just a line you don't cross in the boat when out with species of the same gender.. If you can't reach all the way around, you pay the consequences..
We packed 'er in and head back to Guy's house to drop off the lund. A quick pint, a recap of the day and we were on our way. Guy noticed the mid-back burn and after a chuckle, reminded Mike and I that "Spray is not Gay".... Only after the day was over did I realize I had a bottle of spray lotion in the bottom of my bag.

This past weekend was tasked with "gettin $hit done" around the house. Well things tend to be put off during fishing season. After receiving the following pm late Friday night from Slop "Hi, let's go fishing.", an afternoon laker hunt was quickly planned in 3 messages back and forth.
Me and the Dukester spent the morning reviewing some clips from "Fowl Dawgs". As you can see below, he is a very eager student, willing and ready to learn. I think he'll have the video memorized if he wacthes it a couple more times.
We were on the water by 3:30 and it was not what we wanted to see. High winds blowing in every direction. Conditions were less than ideal for jigging, but I managed to wrestle one laker into the well. This fella seemed to be the perfect guest to join the wife and I for dinner. I offered the invite and he accepted. This was to be our only fish of the day.
Upon returning home, my guest was treated very well during his short stay in the fridge. He was tucked into a bacon sleeping bag, sprinkled with some dill cologne, and had his tummy stuffed with chopped garlic, bacon, red onion and lemon.
My guest requested I crank the heat, so he was graciously warmed on the Napolean. It was this point that he realized he had worn out his welcome and his stay would come to an abrupt end.
What's a nice piece of baked trout without some "fat sauce" on it? It's just not right.
So creamy lemon dill sauce it is.......
Heading back to Quinte this weekend to spend a little time fishin with my Dad before his hip replacement next week. I'm not sure how long the wife will allow the "gettin $hit done" to be delayed, but as long as she gets fish once a week.....I think I'm in the clear. Fishin with my Dad, bring the wife some walleye, sounds like a good weekend coming up to me.
