Lac Pemichangan - Bass or no bass?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Glad you had a good time. Pem is not the easiest lake to work out but once you know it. it produces really well. If you see a black Lund 1725 SS floating around out there, drop by and say hello.

We didn't have much luck on this lake....only a few bass and a few pike. Very tough to figure out.....none of the bays we explored had very thick vegetation....most were pretty deep right up to the shoreline. Weather pretty much sucked so we sat in the cottage more than anything. The carpets in the boat sure got a good washing though.

Our cottage was in Bay Knight for those that know the lake.

@ IanD

Thanks! I did meet some nice boaters... none from here (I think).. one in particular with a heck of a nice yellow ski boat asked me if I greased my bearings on my trailer! I do the same thing when talking to other boaters I meet.

@ joco

It is one of the nicest lakes I have seen. The water looked good enough to drink... Lac 31 miles will likely see me before the hard water season hits.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get on the fish. the bay that got it started for me was Baie Ritchie... Baie de Knight looked a little too high rent for my crappy little tinny to be rubbing gunnels with those ski boats! The bay I want to hit is Baie des Bagnoles... looks like the most secluded spot on the lake. Did you hit it? It is on the extreme East/South-East part of the lake (Lower right hand corner on a map).

You weren't kidding about the launch being right on the freaking road! Look out for the dump trucks if you are there on a week day!!

We went to Baie des Bagnoles on Sunday afternoon. The channel going in there is a little narrow and tricky when you see the rocks come up to get you. I just trimmed up and took her nice an easy. Went to the back of the bay. We fished one area that only had logs on the bottom....no veg...so no fish.....then we fast forwarded past the thick weedy area right in front of the rapids that were there.....and fished the opposite side but still not much luck. I ducked into the other little narrow bay attached to it but it was 20 feet of water right to the shore. Decided to head back near the cottage where we had minimal luck the previous day but when we got there the wind kicked up and we decided to head in for dinner.

Bagnoles holds some has some monster pike. We slow roll big, gold spinner baits at the end of the weed line where it drops off into 20-30'. Not uncommon to toss 2oz baits. It is a great late season (Oct-Nov) spot when the big girls are fattening up.

I'm looking to fish Pem for the opener as I will be staying in a cottage on St. Marie. Fished st. Marie many times and looking for something new for a day. Anyone fish it last summer following this post? Like to score on some nice smallies. tubes, drop shot, jerk baits whatever works.

Thanks!:D

Had some good luck last fall there on the elusive pike ourselves , but not in that bay. Never had much luck back in there ?
