Black River sign

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Black River sign

Post by fenderbender »

There is a sign posted at the mouth of the Black River near Waltham. It's in French, and unfortunately I'm not bilingual. Would anyone be able to tell me what the sign says? I have a QC license but I want to make sure its not a sanctuary or something before I head up there.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Signs

I think if this is the Black that enters the Ottawa river... it is probably the same sign that is posted all over that area just simply pointing out that there is a conservation area all around there and therefore no hunting or overnight camping is allowed. I do not believe that this in anyways affects fishing. But I agree... it should be in both official languages.... Tabernac

The sign at the mouth of the Black River states that the stretch of Black River, from the Ottawa river to the hydroelectric dam upstream is closed to fishing all species until June 26th. It is a fish sanctuary. Quebec runs on both sides of the river here so I am not suprised at all that the sign is entirely in french.

Be very careful navigating through here as the water is very shallow. There are hundreds of unmarked deadheads and rock that make it treacherous to pass through. The torn props back at the cottage are a bad reminder from those outings.
