Depends what Shimano you get and where you buy it for hassle free Life-Time warranty.moonshine wrote:Shimano's? you obviously have tried St Croix rods yet. try to get a Shimano replaced under warranty. not goin to happen. with a St Croix there is no questions asked
OBVIOUSLY I wouldn't say that if I hadn't tried any other rods. I own a few St.Croix and a few G-Loomis. But I find my Shimanos better than my St. Croix but not as worthy as my G-Loomis. But the only Shimano rod I buy are the Compres or the Crucials.
It really depends on what Joisey Joe wants to pay for the rod.
If he wants to pay around 100-125 then the Compre are much better than the St. Croix in that price range. No G-Loomis in that price range.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

I would think your asking too much from one rod. Pike to perch is a wide range to cover with one rod. It can be done, but there wil be sacrifices made to accomodate that range. How big of a deal that is, ONLY matters to you.
The best advice I can give you it to go to a tackle shop, BPS, Cabelas, Gander etc and start to pick up some rods and see how they feel in your hand and how the rod balances. This will give you an opportunity to look at various rods in your budget.
I have several BPS rods and I really like how they sit in my hand. I especially like the handle design and feel of my BPS spinning rod.
I have rods from Cabelas, BPS, Shimano, Kistler and Dobyns and I like them all for what I bought them to to. Rods & beer......don't ever get hung up on one brand. You might be missing your next new favorite.
Good luck,
DS

Very true. But with a little research I am sure Joe can find a reputable builder that can build him a quality rod for a fraction of the cost of a comparable one at a retailer.Eli wrote:that really depends on the skill of the builderJimmy_1 wrote:May I suggest a custom made rod?
Not as expensive as one would think and MUCH better quality than a store bought rod.

I don't have a Cabela's or Gander near the house is it worth checkin out the websites? I would like to put em in my hands to see what I like, I'll check out Dick's next time I'm out. Thanks again.
