Any Frog Hunters?
Can you call it hunting? I am not sure! I stumbled on this at the QC MNR site.
Northern leopard frog, green frog and bullfrog. Club, gate, dart, landing net, pit, hook and hand.
July 15, 2010
to November 15, 2010
So, there is a season for it... but what the heck do you do with them once you club, gate, dart, net, pit (Really?!! Dig a pit to catch frogs?!) hook or hand these bad boys?
Legs?
Anyone do this at all? Is it fun? Are they tasty?
Thanks!
Craig

last winter I watched an episode of Bow Madness on Wild TV of them bow hunting bull frogs.
It seemed like good redneck fun
How many bull frog legs would you need to make a decent sized meal?

Oddly enough, a Non-Resident cannot "hunt" frogs in Quebec. It's a species that is only open to residents. Some rules I'm curious about, that one I just shake my head...
I'd hunt frogs if I were allowed. I know a great little lake near Chenier that is loaded with them (makes for fat bass and pike, if you get my drift...

I would wager an even number of legs!
Are they like chicken wings? BBQ sauce and grill until crispy?
Craig
I used to and get bull frogs all the time with my dad when I was younger. Same idea as moonshine. but we used a hook thta had some hait on it. Whether it was a jig or a spinner did not matter.
Red hook were not so popular back then.
Tastey tastey treat.
They often have frog legs at he Chinese Buffet on Merivale if anyone wanted a sample without "hunting" them.

No longer allowed Bullfrog in our county (Leeds&Grenville). We used to use a red devil and they hit it every time. Just dangle above their head until they get pi$$ed off, wham!!
What was disconcerting is how they try to pull the hook out with their little frog hands - fingers and thumbs, all the while making sad sounds.
You'd have to be heartless to not feel just a tad bit sorry for the fellas. But once you get past that part, smack, legs off, rest is bass food.

I think I will go with the club. A little quicker I'd say.
What is the "gate" all about? Stampede the frogs into a corral?
Craig
Really? A license for frog hunting?
Does this mean the sweet old days where boys can chase frogs and em... torture them a little before releasing them are all gone?!

Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."
