Quantum Tour Edition went overboard - FOUND IT!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Quantum Tour Edition went overboard - FOUND IT!

Post by Popps »

I'm an idiot, lost my Quantum Tour Edition rod and baitcast reel overboard Sunday when I put it down (with spinner bait out!) to take a fish off the hook for my son, heard a click as it hit the transom on the way out!!

First question - think it floats? It was choppy, rod dove down either from hook on bottom coupled with current or a fish on! The split cork handle (new style) probably gives it a lot less chance at floating if it comes loose of bottom I'm thinking.

Gives me something to swim for with a snorkel on hot days at the cottage anyway!!! ;-P

Case of beer and $50 cash for any honest soul that finds it.....I sleep better at night thinking some young fisherman using a garbage rod might find it and treasure it.

It certainly wont float....

How deep of water?....roughly know where it is? There is a bit of current but not enough to be moving a rod along the bottom....

I'd bet on a decent sunny day with that snorkel and mask you may find it.....

Good Luck....losing gear sucks.

Still swimming....

I think they put just shy of the amount of cork they know it needs....keeps us buying!

I know roughly where, but I'm still swimming a 200 yard by 200 yard grid everyday (so not a great situation). 8' deep or so, weedy of course....pretty much need to be right over it I reckon, pretty sure she's gone for good....couldn't buy a story like that night for $300+, ha ha.....

I lost my calcutta/compre combo while catfish fishing. Went to unhook my brothers fish and my rod shot into the river. I spend a good while casting trebles till i finnally hooked my line, grabbed the line and dove it to get it :) No fish on though. There was no way i was leaving until i found it.

Lost my Kistler LTX rod paired with a Pflueger Summit real out of Prescott last year while pre-fishing. Not sure if you know the current situation, but needless to say, I couldn't dive to get it. My heart is still broken about this one. And my wallet... :(

Who knows, maybe someone caught a rod and reel of a lifetime.

I'm with Mudpout ... drag a grapple hook in a grid pattern and you'll likely find it. More likely if you have GPS coords of where it went overboard.
G'luck bud - hope you get it back soon.

FOUND IT!!!!

Post by Popps »

After what I estimate to be about 12 man hours of snorkeling a 100 yard by 200 yard search area over 8 days, and scuba diving for 2 more days, I finally found my rod yesterday while snorkeling. Couldn't believe it...was in 12 feet of water, so buried in weeds that all I saw was the quantum insignia on the spool tension knob....what luck!

She's a little dirty after 11 days at sea but sure looks pretty to me! I'm cleaning her up good but she still casts pretty good even now, caught a large mouth last night!

So my new question is, am I nuts to try to disassemble the PT Tour baitcast reel completely on my own to clean and oil everything or should I take it to someone, if so who?

-Popps (oh and before anyone asks, blew the $50 on sunscreen and scuba refills and drank the case of beer myself, think I earned it!)

FOR ANYONE WHO EVER LOSES SOMETHING VALUABLE OVERBOARD, THE LESSON I LEARNED HERE IS TO THROW THE ANCHOR IN IMMEDIATELY (AND MAYBE CARRY A SNORKEL AND MASK IN THE BOAT)....IF IT'S TOO DARK TO SEARCH THAT MOMENT (IT WAS FOR ME), I'D HAVE TIED A LIFEJACKET TO THE ANCHOR AND COME BACK THE NEXT DAY WITH A MUCH SMALLER AREA TO SEARCH!

Glad you found your rod and reel! I once lost the top half of a fly rod down a deep stream. About 2 months later, I hooked the rod piece while fishing. It was a pure stroke of luck! :D

I love happy endings. That's great.

I carry mask, snorkel and flippers with me in the boat. Get a lot of lures back and it's nice to check out bass spots. :D
