Crotch or Clear

Question for you guys. For walleye and pike would you opt for Crotch or Lake Clear? Thanks

crotch for walleye,clear underwent alot of stocking in the past several years,and i think it still has a 2 fish limit per day, as they are trying to revive it's wally population.

Revive??? its not a walleye lake to begin with. It was originally a Lake Trout/Pike lake. Stocking it with walleye destroyed the balance in the lake. I live 10 minutes from there and I couldn't be bothered to even launch my boat there ever again.

My understanding is that Crotch L. was originally a lake trout lake as well. I have been fishing Crotch L. for appx. 20yrs. and have yet to see a lake trout. I have to assume that they are all gone by now.

Crotch Lake is part of the Mississippi River system. Have you ever caught a Lake Trout in the Mississippi? Don't believe so.

I hear what you're saying but the "oldtimers" at Crotch L. tell me that it used to have a healthy lake trout population before it became noted for walleye. It is certainly deep enough for lake trout. If this is true, I'm not sure why lake trout and walleye couldn't coexist.

Never caught a gar in the Miss system before either but if sportspal is right then they are there and never got one in 30yrs.

Bass Seeker - I would listen to what Moonshine said. I know that Crotch has an abundant of fish. And besides there are plenty of other lakes in that area where you do a day trip for trout etc... if you are there for a week.

From what I've seen all species are doing OK.

Lake clear has an abundance of walleye, I share the same view as moonshine, for whatever a@s backwards reason, "they" thought stocking the lake with Walleye 20 years ago would boost the once strong lake trout population, it has not done so and has also completely wiped out Pike population. Put in a half a@s effort and you will get a couple of quality walleye each night, but as another poster mentioned there is a 2 fish limit and fish must be 20" long on Lake clear.

We're open on that, looking at late May - early June (2011) or Sept-Oct. Thinking about Quinte as well. We haven't fished any of these locations.

i don't expect anyone to agree, but if you would have had the chance to fish it before the walleye were introduced, you would feel the same as i do. if someone wanted to take a scenic tour though, it is probably the most beautiful lake you will ever see.

Moonshine - I'm with ya, I've fished it for 30 years, and imo since they've slammed it with walleye, gone are the bluegills, perch, rockbass that used to be in there by the millions, and most importantly the frequent 5-7 lb Northerns that were caught are also gonzo....Now go out at 8:00pm troll for two hours get 2 cookie cutter 20" walleye ... I'll take Northerns anyday over eyes. There is still a strong SMB population but not like it was before Revenge of the Walleye came in.
