Trying to find info on two lakes

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Trying to find info on two lakes

Post by almontefisher »

So I was hoping someone could pm me some info on two lakes I have heard of lately. One is Hurdes lake near Renfrew and the other is near RJ and is called Mudd lake near Prospect. Now Mudd lake I was told is only accessible from private land but I have a client who owns some of that land but he just bought the property last year and does not fish. So he knew nothing about it. Now Hurdes lake if I am spelling it right has a friend of mine who has a cottage on it and he said bass and pike but after a lengthy and confusing cruise around it I noticed many channels around the 40-60ft ratio and was wondering if any walleye were in it??

Thought someone was pulling my leg. Are they?? Is that what that smiley face was for RJ?? Dang I feel silly now. I was pretty sure it was not there. He did not like the rate increase on his home premium I guess.

Now Does anyone know about Hurdes??

You're lucky to know someone who'll let you have access
to Hurd's Lake (no 'e' on the end  ), 'cause there is
no Public Access.

I've always wanted to try it, and also Norway Lake
(near Springtown), but until I cash in on the
LottoMax and buy a cottage on each lake. I
guess I'm sh!t-outta-luck!!!!! :P

Cyber, Springtown part of the Madawaska? There is a launch there and up the road just before Burnstown. As far as Norway, it sits below Mountain Chute Dam. Depending on your boat there is access.

Norway is below the mountain chute dam but about 20 km away. The lake you are thinking of is Norcan Lake which is directly below Mountain Chute.

I have had the opportunity to fish Hurd's lake a few times, there are walleye in there, but not many. Some nice jumbo perch though. A friend who owns a house on there doesn't even fish it that much due to the lack of success on multiple species other than perch. The locals don't even talk about many walleye being caught anymore. Not sure why a low pressured lake isn't rejuvenating or self sustaining ?

While it's not Norcan Lake, there is a 30 acre parcel of water front land for sale just before you go over the big box culvert on Calabogie Rd and turn right to go down Norcan Lake. You just can't get anywhere from it on the water other than from canoe or kayak

Sorry Guys, I confused Norway with Norcan Lake. However, the boat launchs remain the same. Must be able to navigate through the rapids after Burnstown.

Good morning Almontefisher...
I owned a cottage at Hurds Lake for about 5 years. That was from 1987 to about 1993. I went in from Pucker St, on the topo map at Belangers Corners. There is access there but I do believe it was private? I fish lots and in that lake there is good smallmouth fishing, some large mouth and some pike. My son missed a pike on the morning I got a pickerel ...could have been 10-15 LBS. I did get one pickerel at 9.5 LBS. I only ever fished the south half of the lake in those 5 years. Not many people fished on the lake at that time. To-day I have no idea.

Yeah that is the same way I get to it. I was talking to another FHer and he mentioned that there was bass in it as well but all the times which is twice I have fished it I got nada. A buddy got a few dink perch but nothing. A very confusing water system with lots of bends and turns. We like to call it the maze as if you do not remember where you went you will be stuck on the lake for a while. 8)
