Do you not post because of....

The same group of guys were always involved in those conflicts because they did the lions share of participating on the board...reporting, trip planning, moderating, helping others, and yes...posting in controversal threads. Their level of familarity developed into some life long friendships and when those friends openly discussed a lot of topics on a public forum eventually their comments would come under constant critisism. It came to a point where the question was asked why are they sharing personal conversations with the world when they are meant for a certain group of friends. So, a smaller spot on the net was created for those conversations. It's understandable, most members here only wanted to hear/read about spots, hot lures, hot bites, ect....they could be spared with the kid talk, pet pictures, vacation discussion, job talk, ect.Mick wrote:The way i remember it many of those core people were causing those various issues and ironically left to start a private site because of all the issues
Thats all it was. It wasn't meant to exclude anyone, it was just a small corner of the web were guys who know each other personally and actively fish together could openly discuss their personal fishing/life adventures.
your comments are true to a point also.
But I will ask the question, not just of you, but of the board in general - if an internet board is frequently full of conflict and 80% of the content is coming from a small group of members, doesn't it seem reasonable that the small group likely bears a high degree of responsibility for the conflict? and by extension the board's general tone?
I think the problem in the old days was a lot of guys had familiarity with one another established around campfires from adventures weekends and what not and when new people came along they got hammered trying to break onto the site. Today, I don't think the core folks on the board all know one another as well as they used to (or possibly at all). JMO but it used to be conflict between the established core (most of whom I knew and pretty well all good guys) and new people. Today, I find there is a lot of conflict between the core guys bickering at one another let alone potshots at new guys.
There continues to be a lot of guys posting fabulous stuff here - you just sometimes have to wade through a lot of garbage to get at it.

That in and of itself could be a report. Post what you are doing... where (structuraly) you are doing it and with what... maybe someone will have that golden bit of advice that will make a difference.Bear wrote:unfortunatly I've had nothing to report on lately ...... MY LAST TWO SEASONS HAVE SUCKED
If nothing else... we will just make sure we are not doing what you are doing!!

I try to encourage people with their posting... some times insight or egg on... but encouragement none the less!

I just recently joined but have been lurking a while.
I fish small lakes up north for 30 years but finally got myself a big boat to use on the water near my home.
I had no idea where to go and serached around... not really finding anything. But I can see that no one really want to give any info like that so easily anyway.
I think fishing is just one of those things that people like to keep private. And also love to talk about. Even with my good buddies we just trash talk about how useless each other are.
It's like a funny poker game.
No one wants another guy fishing next to him in his favorite spot. Heck I start tensing up when I have another boat anywhere near me... (yeah, I'm used to being the only boat on the lake... hard to get used to that)
So, I'll tell you a bit, but not too much, and I won't tell you where I go, but here is a picture of me holding a monster and don't get too close to me next time, and I'm glad you leave after a few casts 'cause I've been hauling them in, but don't go too fast 'cause you'll scare them away... and I hunted around to find the launches and parking so I won't tell you so you can suffer too...
Funny situation...

You better make this quick Craig. Is it not your anniversary? That in and of itself could be a report. Post what you are doing... where (structurally) you are doing it and with what... maybe someone will have that golden bit of advice that will make a difference.

A Fish a Day, will keep the Blues away!
With the opportunity of obtaining stocking lists, maps, coordinates, toys to get to and from, the internet searches and of course this site and others, I do believe we have forgotten the art of sharing. Some of us don't even know how to share as it is not part of their upbringing. I know that on many occasions when I am in the back lake and I meet people, I usually spend the time talking and sharing and so do they! On this site however, if you are new, certain questions might not fly over well. But you'd be surprised how many members actually will PM the questioner with a somewhat good answer. Now please bare in mind that we as fishermen will keep secrets to ourselves because we probably have gone to great lengths and expect the questioner to do the same. But again knowing the extent of research. I myself would consider providing a little info to help the questioner on his/her quest. But to share this with everyone is to me a No No.I just recently joined but have been lurking a while.

I usually don't post on threads like this one but here's my opinion.
I enjoy reading a lot of the reports and post a few myself from time to time . The one thing that I have noticed is that people with
only a few posts (compared to some) usually post some quality stuff. Then you see guys with thousands of posts (not all) that
just flap there gums, attack other people, very sarcastic and never really say anything.

Well i am going to add my two cents here. I love to see the posts on here, especially ones with pics. I like to post some as well. I may fib as to the location of my outing but my catches are real and so is my story. If i receive negative feedback, it is because i brought it on myself with a comment. I appreciate any feedback that i get. some people send me PM's asking questions about technique and conditions, which I always answer honestly. If I am not posting reports its because i have nothing out of the ordinary to report. Some people take comments too seriously and feel insulted. Myself? I take it all in stride and i don't let it deter me from my next post. I know that the majority enjoy reading them whether they say so or not. I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting people from when I've offered up an open seat. That is my favorite way to share my experience.
