But why are the water levels OK on the Rideau?
I have a trip planned for the lower St-Lawrence and wonder if their will be enough water to launch and make it in and out of the Island cottage.
Someone pulled the plug

Apparently above the Swisha Damn (north of Deep River) the water levels are normal...they are just holding back more water to keep them there, in fears that we may have a dry August/September. I live on the Petawawa river (which comes out of the Park via the Petawawa River and Baron River) and levels there are better. Still low, but not as drastic as The Ottawa.
Could the difference be the Ottawa is controlled by dams that hold back water reserves for power generation and the Rideau is controlled by locks that are opened and closed multiple times a day for recreational purposes?Trophymuskie wrote:But why are the water levels OK on the Rideau?

With the water levels so low on the Ottawa I might be able to find some of my snagged lures near shore . Pretty crazy though I was driving by the Lievre River on the way to Mont Laurier and most of the landed boats on the water were a few hundred away feet from the docks that they're normally tied to.
eli..actualy it could be worst now if it was not for the dams...not in some are its been hold.a bit..if not it would be gone.
and series off lake could be good depending ho you talk to.,,but those effect nature..but even nature makes there own dams etc.but do have to sy some dams were not needed.
dams are good and bad.
can be bad if they hold to mutch and can be bad if they go to mutch.
but even reg rivers where no dams still have there prob.
what i dont like about dams..its the stoping off the fish to move along the river and some speicies to come spawning where they use to go for 100 off year and more...if it were not for carillion and other dams here we would see more species up here down town...ho well.
