Frontenac or Charleston Lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Frontenac or Charleston Lake

Post by Fly Willy »

Hey, I have a boys weekend camping trip coming up in the end of September. I am trying to figure out where to go.

Frontenac Canoe Camping?
Charleston Lake?

Other places?

Where is the better fishing?

Thanks
B

I have a soft spot for frontenac... fishing aside, it's just beautiful.

Do you want to bring your fishing boat or do you want to use canoes? Do you want to rough it or have some comfort? Both parks are quite different. Charleston is mainly a standard park with a few remote camp sites along the lake. Frontenac Park is all wilderness camping and no outboard motors are allowed on all the interior lakes. Charleston Lake is a big lake with quite a bit of motorboat traffic although by late September its pretty quiet. On Frontenac you can have a small lake all to yourselves although you'd have to portage to it. You can drive to bigger lakes on the park borders that have campsites saving yourself the portage but you still have to load the canoe to get to them.

Thanks. We will be renting a canoe and just fishing and canoeing in the days and hopefully have something to eat by the evening. I think I like the seclusion of Frontenac. I just wanted to know if there were fish around.

There should be very good bass fishing then. Check your regs and stocking reports as some lakes are stocked with splake and the season should still be open and the fishing at that time should be very good.
