What Makes A Good Report?
I enjoy the reports as anyone would like to share them. but one problem for me is that my FH gallery wont' hold enough images to give a great report with pics. the resolution on my camera is set to the lowest and i can still only save 6 pics. i like to keep some of the pics in my gallery. such as the PB's. but after these are saved there is hardly any room to upload anymore. I have passed up great photo op's because i knew i wouldn't be able to share them. just last week my wife and i watched a bald eagle make several dives into the water and watched as it took off with what seemed like a 2 lb pike. i know i will never forget that spectacle for as long as i live but i wish that i could have shared it with FH members

Only 6 photos??? That's not right. There has to be something wrong. Let me check the settings.moonshine wrote:I enjoy the reports as anyone would like to share them. but one problem for me is that my FH gallery wont' hold enough images to give a great report with pics. the resolution on my camera is set to the lowest and i can still only save 6 pics. i like to keep some of the pics in my gallery. such as the PB's. but after these are saved there is hardly any room to upload anymore. I personally think there are no "bad" reports.....anyone who takes the time to take the pics, upload them, then share em is a contributing member to the site and adds value....just because the report doesn't feature huge fish it could be that persons best day of the year and they wanted to share......to me that is nothing but good.
What makes a "great" report to me is quality photos.....quality fish...and a bit of information that will help others the next time they are on the water.....simple equation really.

Hey Moonshine, that's one heck of a camera if that's the lowest resolution it will do. Those pictures are HUGE! I've got lots of disk space on my server, so I've removed the quota limit for registered user uploads. Give that a try to see if it works now for you......and re-check your camera settings to see if you can at least cut the size of the photos in half. Some of them are showing as being 13MB each or more.Bobber wrote:Only 6 photos??? That's not right. There has to be something wrong. CPrince. Good question. How come I never thought about asking it?
Posting 50 pics of bass caught in one report will be both rubbing it in and adding insult to injury. So stop asking and post them 50 pics
Seriously please post all these pics. That's what high speed Internet, multi-core processors are for. I will definitely enjoy looking at 50 pics, peeking at the lure in the background, wondering why this guy looks so happy, than reading 50 paragraphs describing how every fish was caught.
But that's just me.

"The time has come," the Walrus said, "To talk of many things:
Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--
Of cabbages--and kings--
And why the sea is boiling hot--
And whether pigs have wings."

Great thread topic!!
It must really take a lot of time to do a high quality report. I wouldn't know first hand, I'm usually in a hurry and just throw something together quickly.
Nor do I have the natural talents to be an author.
There are several report MASTERS on this site, who I know I could learn from. We ALL know who I'm referring to. It's more than these people just investing time, there is a true TALENT in their literary expression. To me, these are way more than reports, but real storytelling.
Aside from the storytellers reports, (which are awesome), I like the uniqueness of other people's report styles.
Joco's posts are a joy to read, because the "Frenglish" just adds something unique. 24/7's reports are hilarious, with the ZING DA MA DING DONG's and other unique adjectives. Wolfe's are unique - always looking to save some creature from harm, and a real motherly persona that warms the heart. And BA always has a bird or two... RJ's reports are very technically detailed and there is always a big fish or two.
Point is, we should encourage everyone to post reports, and continue each in their own style. I personally prefer it that way, a report from BA without a bird, or a report from 24/7 without the adjectives, etc etc just wouldn't be the same.
My advice, for those who don't have a report style yet, don't attempt to mimic others, just write up a report - and be yourself!! Yours may be the next unique style that people will come to enjoy.
Cheers

You do know that I live in Petty Coat Junction.. right? I have carrier pigeon internet. I send the pigeons off to BA's place in Gatineau with my messages and pictures tied to their legs... This is why I don't post EVERY picture!!bm_attar wrote:...That's what high speed Internet, multi-core processors are for....
I am up to about 85 outings since pike opened in May... I am hoping to top 120 this year. I am only posting a VERY small percentage of my outings.
Some reports got lost due to frequent power failures and poor internet connection... imagine if I had a real connection and a gas generator for backup?!!
Thanks everyone for your take on what makes a good report!!
Keep it coming!
