Mississippi Lake Cottage Trip - With Pics

Post by Scaini33 »

I lucked out this summer and got to go up to a cottage on mississippi lake for the first week of august. The fishing was pretty good for the most part. I couldn't seem to catch any bass over 2lbs and every bass i caught seemed to be 2lbs, weird.

I usually fished around weed patches with a worm or a yum lizard and they both seemed to produce well. I drifted a tube on the bottom in about 12-15 feet of water one day when it was pretty windy and that produced a lot of fish in the small amount of time we were out there.

I had my boat up and i tried to fish as many spots on the lake as i could but i found the fishing off the dock to be the best. There were always sunfish to catch there and bass and pike too.

Me and my girlfriend would pop on a worm and fish for sunfish off the dock with our 5'6" ultra lights and 4lb test. I found that to be a lot of fun and a good way to pass time. On tuesday tho i hooked on to a decent pike and i got it right below me at the dock before it laughed and tore through the 4lb test. So on thursday before a storm i was just throwing some worms out and getting some sunfish and the pike (who i assume lived near by) kept going in for the kill on my sunfish. So i yelled to the deck "get me my rapala rod with a white big o" sure enough on my first cast it the pike took a run, same thing on my second cast, then on my third cast after it took a run at my bait and i let it sit there for about 5 seconds and then it SMASHED the big o. Turned out to be a decent 4.5lb pike

Here are some of the 2lb fish

The catch of the week had to go to my girlfriend. I was up on the deck starting the bbq when i hear "ahhhh come help me!" My girlfriend has the best luck with fishing so i knew it was going to be big. I ran down, grabbed the net just as the fish got to the dock. It was a 3.5lb smallie and she caught it on the ultra light with 4lb test. I was happy for her but she got the big fish of the week so i was a little jealous too :roll:

What a great place to spend a vacation, and a fun way, too.

I love catching bass, too, but agree it's so much fun to switch gears to panfish on ultra-light tackle...and there's something about fishing off the dock. It's so lazy and relaxing.

Your girlfriend landed a real nice smallie...WTG.

This was a fun report to read.

Enjoyed the report - that's a dandy smallmouth!!
Amazing how it can go - fish all over the lake and then the biggest fish comes from right under the dock!

Hi Scaini;
Thanks for the post and I am glad to see you had a good time.
It also looks like you have a nice fishing set up.
The best part however, is that you did this trip with your best buddy!

Those buggers are known to laugh at you right before they foil your plans to pull them out of the water!!!
