Lochabaer Bay is private property????

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Not hard for both to intermingle at all. I was on the Miss out of Appleton yesterday and we co mingled very well with a few duckers. They respected us and we respected them. We asked them if they saw any birds land on the opposite shore and we went over fished it and flushed them out. The couple of shots a few seconds later was interesting as I have never been on this side of the hunt. I am usually in on the hunt but not this year. We saw a slash and the dog went a chasing.

As for the bay thing if it is part of the Ottawa river and not man made I am assuming it is public land but let the guys have a few days of fun and the fish will still be there.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

Hi out4trout ... although i'm kidding the underlying message is nothing to joke about ... hunters should be respected because you never know who they are and if you can trust them ... I have no doubt that you and the people you associate with always have safety in mind before they pull the trigger ... but where I come from there were always hunting "accidents" every year ... I know that deer hunting with my father, if he saw any tracks in the snow going up the mountain we'd turn back and go someplace else ... there's lots of trigger happy people out there that can see a deer late in the day when there's nothing there but a stump ... I know a guy who was in my older brothers class who was shot once because he was mistaken for a partridge !!! And where I grew up there were lots of areas my dad would not let us hunt because there were guys with camps there and as my dad put it they are out hunting while being "on the sauce" ... he'd know because he used to hunt with them.

Not trying to paint hunters as a bad crew because they are not (I used to be one) ... likely 95% of them are fine ... I just don't want to be the one that runs into the 5% and perhaps the chances of getting shot by a duck hunter is much less than a high powered rifle ... nevertheless if it's hunting season and they have an area staked out ... they can have it.

I just wanted to troll up a few pike for my buddy that doesn't get to fish much. We ended up getting a few elsewhere. No harm no foul. I'm sure the hunters in Lochabaer are a legit crew. No hard feelings towards them, but there were no hunters in the bay yet...I would have certainly left after they showed up. Anyway...I guess it gives me a reason to explore new spots...that didn't work too well yesterda eh Bruce?

Come on walleye bite!

I live to duck hunt.

Here's what I do.

I find spots where anglers are not very likely to be. I have been duck hunting for years (5) and only once on Taylor lake did I encounter anglers.

I stick to creeks, ponds etc and stay off lakes (usually). Doubtful folk are flipping bass or etc in a creek.

I come away with a full bag.....prevented nobody from doing what they want....win/win in my books.

BS on Lochaber being private property.

Well said.

It would a clear case of douchebaggery if you went into a part of a bay that you knew hunters were sitting on.

If I know they are there... I stay away. If they move in while I am there, they have to wait about 10 minutes... that is how long it might take me to move along.

It is not like I am ice fishing and can't move.

Molson owns the land not the water, if your boat floats you are fine! thsi has been going on for years....did they take a your picture :D they usually did that in the past with a nice letter written from a lawyers office. Best place for information is the RCMP. What we were told prior to a Renegade tournament is that nobody is allowed to block any navigable waterway but if you can stay out please do

Inevitably there will be an altercation between the hunters and some fisherman over his/her right to fish the bay. If the Quebec MNR was seriously concerned about the potential conflict between anglers and duck hunters on the bay, they could easily change the regulations to close fishing in the bay during the fall hunt and reopen it once ice fishing starts up.

How would they know where to send a letter by taking a picture?

No, they give you a standard letter on how it is a privilege that you can fish this bay during the summer months and you should appreciate it and leave it alone during hunting season...they don't bother giving it to me anymore :D

Presumably by tracing the registration letter on the boat to an owner using the Coast Guards database?

In Ontario, no owns any land that is under water.(unless it's an animal drinking pond on your property).
I've heard many stories of fishermen being scared off by locals saying that the bay/stream/inlet/river is private property.
But if you never touch the shore, then the law's on your side.
Respect each other though, no need to start a war.

I thought that the shore (5 feet from the high water mark) was also public.

I might be wrong as there are so many seafaring misnomers out there!

Wasn't it a farmers field in there before a Downstream dam was built?? Maybe that makes a difference.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

I have came into this situation in the past on Quinte.

We used to hunt a reedline that was 80-100 feet from shore.

At the time the land ownder purchased, the water betweem the reed line and the shore did not exist.

We obtained permission and informed others that it was indeed prrivate property, so and so was the owner, and we had permission to be there.
