Havent had time to do much fishing these days but made the best of the little time available.

Hit the banks with my bro for a couple of hours sunday night. There are lots of spots in downtown Ottawa/Gatineau that can produce decent walleyes from shore in the fall. We caught a bunch of walleyes, with lots of dinks in the mix, casting lipless crankbaits on a shallow flat with tons of baitfish. Lots of crappies around also.

Spent sunday morning on the Ottawa with Buck chasing muskies. Was actually a nice change of pace, using an electric motor instead of my paddle. Three nicest fish we raised were in very shallow water and only managed one in the boat, a fat 38" that blasted the topwater right at the boat..

Muskies hitting topwaters at boatside, can some times call for a change of pants.... :lol:

Thought I would add this report to this one...

Got a call in june by Cyril to film a segment for his show, done from a yak, with the filming done from a tandem kayak, with Dan paddling and thousands of dollars of gear drifting in fast waters in the middle of the St-Lawrence in cheapest piece of plastic ever molded by man. We fished from kayaks and waded, with our yaks anchored on reefs.

We picked a stretch in downtown Mtl, with reefs that are unaccessible from a boat, enter the kayak :twisted: :twisted:. We targeted smallies and caught a bunch to 3.5lbs. Our kicker was a very large sturgeon....

He really liked his experience and we did the drifts a couple of weeks later. My hooksets were crisper without the cameras.

Manny, do you mind if I ask where you caught that nice looking walleye with the crank in his mouth? I see a boat behind you and it looks like a spot near victoria island... I've been there 3 or 4 times this month and got nothing, can't seem to find the baitfish down there.

Yeah man...even got a few PM's asking were this is, happy to help shore-bound anglers.

The walleyes were caught right at the mouth of the locks at the Parlement hill, the boat is actually the Alexandria Bridge. Still lots of baitfish around. It's usually good from dusk till midnight and even better if there is a moon movement in that time...from september till ice-up. Must add though that the spot is toast until the floating weeds brought on by all this rain drifts down.

Got lots of other spots in the region, if any shore anglers want to give it a go...shoot me a PM.

thanks for the info manny, I might go down there and give it a shot.... do you know if that spot is a consistent producer in the fall, or is it only hot because the water is rising? Iknow the point at victoria island is good in spring when the water is up, but dies very soon after the water has levelled out.

Boat-side smashes are heart stopping. Luckily the adrenalin gets your ticker pumping again!

Nice fish all across the board.

I especially love the release shot with the sturgeon. They have such a distinctive profile. Very cool...

Wolfe, every time weve done this drift, we noticed a family of egrets. Didn't get any pictures but this is the best I can do. Noticed a few of them flying but these ones were up-close...

Would be the snowy egrets..

Some solid fishing Manny. Quite the assortment. The muskie is one clean looking beauty and sturgeon are just too cool. What did hit? The tube? 8)
