Small river beasts.

My bro and I have been wanting muskies in small rivers so we picked one in particular that we knew was big enough to hold big fish but small enough, with nice rapids spaced perfectly, to prevent boats. So with our river picked out, we hit GoogleMap.

Our first attempt at this river got us a massive musky that dumped us at the yak. We were convinced so we went back.

My bro Dan hit it yesterday with one of his buddies and managed a heavy, fat musky. Casting to trees that litters the shore-line, he moved his fatty with a FT Buchertail. Nice Dan..

47.5 beast..

I wanted in on this so we went back today. Started the day with a nice blast right at the yak on a Skinner and caught a nice and clean 35" at sunset on a buzzbait.

Lotta big fish for this small river. Also perfect for when the wind is blowing hard on the Ottawa...need a yak or a canoe though!!

Thanks for sharing Many!!! There are MANY bodies of water that have skis lurking in their depths... I just might see one this coming week-end!

Neat take on the (usual) way to fish for these monsters. Just curious, though, does it take longer to land them from a yak -- I would think you would literally get towed all over creation.

Wow, I can't imagine what it would be like to catch a fish that big when you are sitting right at the water line. I hooked my first small river Musky years ago when I was wading. As I was lifting my Rebel minnow from the water a 35" Musky snatched it and proceeded to give me a good splashing and requiring a shorts check after that. My hands shook for a good couple hours

. I also caught the small-river Musky bug and spent almost every Summer weekend fishing from a canoe for that fish for several years.

One of the top ten photos this year, Manny. Good on ya' for doing the research and putting in the time to chase the hard-to-reach BEASTS! Very impressive!

Wolfe, muskies dont tow us really. The kayaks move on the hookset, towards the fish so within seconds, the musky is around or underneath the yak and they really dont have much stamina.

Smallies now, they tow you around. Heres a picture of Dan fighting a 5+ bass that towed him right in the trees. There was nothing he could do to stop this fish from going under the trees and eventually breaking off.

Man.....I am surprised that fish could lift that belly off the bottom
