Fall Splake Trip

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fall Splake Trip

Post by Mike P »

With the ice season approaching, been spending some time scouting new lake to fish. Last night during a speck trip it was decided to try for some splake today.

Met up with Hook-n-Shoot at 5;30 and began the drive to a lake we have been itchin to find. Actually arrived with-out problems and proceeded to carry the tinny in.

For the next four hours we fished this lake with the" tackle box" at all depth, and were rewarded with one small one.

Decide to go to shore and stretch the legs. Taking some casts from shore, my rod slams down, there was no tap. After a few minutes of fighting this fish we could see it 3ft away from us but just out of reach. I don`t think I was breathing until he was in the net.

We take him out of the net and probably stared at him for 10 minutes. He measured 25 ´by 16 . My biggest splake to date.

We ended the day catching two more, one just under the size of the one in the pic, the other smaller.

Decided to have this fish mounted because of it`s colour.

That is one heck of a trout!

Nom nom nom... What type of lake are you fishing in? Did you fall into a hole and drop 20 miles into the center of the earth? Damn thing looks Jurassic!

That oughta be the icing on the cake for the year you have had!!

That is an INCREDIBLY beautiful fish. One of the nicest fish I have ever laid eye's on..it even rivals a char in its beauty.

Ridiculously awesome!!!!!

Nice job Mike. That beats my PB by about 10" almost...lol. I can see your kid pointing to that on the wall and wanting to play with it. Again very nice Mike.

Which lake was it again....lol. Just kidding of course!

I want to get to some never fished before lakes this year as well. I want the adventure of getting to them and fishing them. If I get skunked so be it but what a blast finding these lakes and getting one of those out of it. I have been sticking to the ones I know to much these days.

We will get out this winter for a fish I promise.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

Unbelievable fish Mike.... pretty damn sweet.

What's next on the list, you've pretty well nailed a monster in most species this year....
