You've been given good advice on the reels but a word of caution about the Revo Toro. They have an inherent problem. Abu's fix is to replace the reel. Supposed to be made for muskie but they haven't been holding up very well and have a very poor track record.
Plenty of negative stuff on the internet. check it out first.

Can you elaborate on this "inherent problem"?Lunker Larry wrote:You've been given good advice on the reels but a word of caution about the Revo Toro. They have an inherent problem. I've had 0 issues with mine so far and I doubt I will. I know their older stuff had a few issues but I thought that's what they fixed with this newer version.
As far as finding negative stuff on the internet... well, it's the internet, bad news always travels faster.

I don't own any low profile reels and have no need for one actually.
If you have smaller hands I guess they make sense.
I can comfortably palm a Garcia 6500 all day, but then my paws are huge...lol.
All depends on how much you want to spend and how hard or often you use the reel. No need to break the bank to pick one up.
Abu Garcia 5500 C3.....$89.00
Abu Garcia 6500 C#.....$130.00
Abu Garcia 5500 Trophy..$185.00
Curado is in the $200 range.
Calcutta is over $300 range.
Good Luck.

Catch Your Limit, But Limit Your Catch.
lifeisfun: how do you like your revo toro winch? I picked up one this spring as my first bait caster because of the mostly positive reviews as a musky reel...I find it OK..but the low gear ratio (4.6:1 as I remember) a little bit of a pain when trying to burn baits quickly.
I defintely should have realized this of course...lower ratio means I need to crank more to retrieve quickly...not to mention I have a right hand model, when I have used left handed reels my entire life..but this was the reel I wanted, and I couldn't pass up the chance I had to get it at the time.
over all I like it...just wonder how other people are liking it.

marine i have big hands too so palming the reel is not the problem. I just want to make sure that the reel I get lasts more than a couple trips. Usually i'm out every 2nd weekend fishing for muskies, so it wont be used alot. The curado looks nice and has some very good reviews, so its a toss up between that and the abu garcia
It's great for large bucktails, for fast retreive I use the 5.4:1miker wrote:lifeisfun: how do you like your revo toro winch? My Opinion is, yes. Save $100 after taxes! That's a good chunk of change to put towards a rod.tbone1088 wrote:thanks for the heads up fiiish, I appreciate it. I`d like to ask you guys if this deal is too good to pass up? its regular 285 on for 200 for a revo toro. I was going to wait a couple more months to buy a reel, but if this deal is too good to pass up I will pick it up asap.

With that said however, don't let the savings be to only deciding factor.
Go check it out and make sure you like how it feels in your hands.
