Good place for old outboard parts?

Post by The Captain »

I've got an older Johnson 20HP outboard, that I think from the code is a 1984. J20CRC|M

I'm looking for a scrap pile or parts collection for a tiller handle assembly, mine has developed a crack in one of the two halves, and also the bevel gear is cracked that transfers throttle control into the motor housing

not in a big rush, boat and motor are away, but would like to start the search in advance

any leads appreciated

(spoke to a dealership, part no longer available, but likely anything from that year range from a 15 to 30 or so would have the same parts)

thanks!

'84 aint old!!!!!

Parts for Johnny-Rudes are readily available for MANY sources all the way back to and including the late '50s early '60s range.

I would look at the board sponsor... and since Daner isn't around to plug them, I will... Laurentian Marine. They can usually get what you need!

If you want an online source to get an idea of price, these are the two parts sources that I use consistently;

They have a lot of "off Brand" type parts... this is where I get most of my Eska/Ted Williams/ Sears parts! But they also have OMC/Johnson/Evinrude

This is an excellent source for all marine parts. Find out if your marina is gouging you for parts by going here... never seen better prices... AND they are a Canadian company charging Canadian $.

Good luck!

Thanks Craig, a lot of good resources there!

Old being a relative term, I've used a couple 1950's models once or twice in the past, their vintage almost makes me feel bad about cursing them for not starting!

I'll hunt around, then give Laurentian a call if I come up empty . . .

I got parts for my old (1962 old!) 10hp Seahorse at Lebrun Service Centre on St-Laurent. 613-746-6363. Always seemed to have the part I needed in a bin in the back somewhere, and it never cost me more than 20$.

You know what Yannick, that is really interesting how Lebrun has that stuff kickin around. I mean, great to match (marine) what is not a match (auto).
And I mean this with respect toward you.

They very much have a marine department, with a large inventory of used parts. No disrespect to you Daner, I'm sure Laurentian Marine does great work, but I just want to make sure The Captain knows of all the options out there. Lebrun has always been good to me.

the handle might work, but i need the driving gear also,

Not to sure about that RIVERKILLER, when I inquired about getting my 1993 Yamaha outboard fixed at OBW. They actually told me to go to Lebrun....which I appreciated and did.

But that was summertime and things were busy...

If you know for sure what you are looking for, I can access a database of dealers who would probably have the part/s you are looking for.
Now is the best time as things are getting kind of quiet.
Daner at Laurentian.
