FYI Please be careful when venturing out away from the pack. Hit some VERY sketchy ice today while checking on an area. Thankfully I had a spud with me. 5" of nice ice suddenly turned into 2". Nearly crapped my pants when I hit the ice with my spud and heard a very odd dull hollow sound, 2nd hit went right through. Back tracked very slowly...

Hey,
Today it's about 18 cm , is it still consider as unsafe?
What is the safe amount of ice?
I also have a quick question about ice fishers mentality.
It will be my first try for ice fishing and I have the strict minimum.
Do you think I can borrow an auger from someone already on the ice to do few holes or fishers usually don't do that ?
Thanks.
