How do you think this weather will affect the ice?

Hey guys!
With this warm front and rain coming through for the next days, how do you think it will affect the ice thickness and quality? I'm not an expert or anything but it can't be good can it? Are we looking at losing an inch of ice or will it not affect it that much? Can someone please share some knowledge?

It could get rid of the snow on the surface and then make it a nice smooth ice surface after the next cold snap like what happend last year. That makes walking to spots much easier. Or it could melt too much and leave the River wide open. Let's hope for the best.

Ice then Snow on top... then SOAK all that snow... = Lots of weight on the ice... Could be a lot of stress on some of the areas with less ice build up.

Can't wait for those cold nights to make it all harden up!

Was on the ice today a good 4.5" to 6" of ice that is holding good, melting a lot of the snow, might be able to handle some rain if it turns cold a day latter..... Just my observation for where I fish not the same all over.

I had mentioned how high the water was when it frooze, it allready has dropped over a foot breaking away from the shore. Now it's already got water and slush pockets all over it and it isn't that warm yet.

No one listened to the news last week? They closed the ferry in Cumberland as all the ice down river from Petrie broke away. We drove by there and it was wide open all the way to petrie, can't remember seeing that before considering how cold it has been.

Right now we have 6 to 8 inches of ice out here but if the water level drops some more it may all break away.

I am planning a trip out to Silver Lake on sunday. I am just curious how much ice was there prior to this thaw? Will the ice be safe on sunday?

I'll be driving by Silver Lake on Jan 1st I'll stop and take a look at the ice.

Due to a lack of information coming in about ice conditions on silver, I am going to go to Clayton instead. I was in at bits and baits today, and was told that the conditions on Clayton are favorable. However, two guys in my fishing party chickened out so now its only a few of us going now.

Sorry Canmoore, I was sick today so we did not make the drive from London to Almonte, so didn't check out Silver Lake.

Good call.
The Zone 18 deeper lakes can't be trusted yet, even before the thaw. North in Zone 15 the ice on the deeper lakes was good before the recent thaw.

This is a mini ice update/clayton lake fishing update. We showed up at Clayton lake, and the ice looked wonderful. No water at all, just glare ice.. we could have skated out.

As for the ice, I was shocked, I though it was going to be between 6-8 inches. However my measuring tape was reading 10 inches of ice!! I went to take a picture, but just my luck the batteries in my camera were dead. However, some spots we drilled had less ice. I'd say the ice is between 7-10 inches. There were ATV's driving on the lake to, so no worries.

No fish, but it was fun to finally get out again. However, the wind was a tad strong. It decided to take my chair for a ride, I had to make a trip across the lake after it! It did not stop untill it hit the reeds on shore infront of a grey house!! Scary moment was when I was walking towards a yellow hut, the sun was now shining, and there was this HUGE crack, the ice shook under my feet and I could hear the entire lake cracking and groaning, nearly crap my pants. Decided to drill a hole and check the thickness...a solid 10 inches!!
