Quinte January 4th

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Quinte January 4th

Post by JimW »

On Tuesday I made it out for my first Quinte Ice trip of the year. Grant (Maple on f-h) was my fishing partner for the day. As well 2 young guys I use to teach came with us for their first ever fishing trip to Quinte.

We went out with Jamie Stothart of G2 Angling.

The area we were fishing had a good 6" of black ice with a dusting on snow in the morning that turned into 4-5" of snow by the end of the day. We had a decent morning bite, caught a couple throughout the day, and a few more during the afternoon bite. We moved to different depths throughout the day trying to stay on fish. By the end of the day between the 5 of us we caught around 14 walleye of various sizes, 3 nice perch and 1 surprize. Near the end of the day I hooked into a nice hard fighting fish that pulled some decent drag, I thought I had a real hawg walleye!!!!! After a good fight, I gain line and as the fish approaches the hole and I am picturing my pb 15 pound walleye about to be landed, a great big sheephead comes into view  . It wouldn't even fit threw the hole.

Here are a few photos...

Good report Jim.

I didn't know what to say about your 'remarkable' catch...but you've manned up to it. By the way, Jim also caught some good walleye in the evening, and that damnable drum.
Although it had it's slow times, we did well in the long run, and those young lads sure put a beating on those fish. If they caught anything bigger, we'd a been in trouble with those 8" holes. Jamie (Stoty) was a great guide to boot.

Also, I'm sure Jim just lost the pic of my fish. So I've included it here.

We'll be back.
