Shirley's Bay
Went out to Shirley's Bay for around 6:45 this morning to try our luck on the Ottawa. Was successful around 8:30 when I landed a 2lb (16-18") Pike.
Shirley's bay
Unless there is a road track out there you will probably have issue's with the snow with a two wheel drive truck. I havent been out since the last dump of snow, but it was getting up there then so.... Bring a shovel; and tow rope if your going to try
The furthest hut out is ours Unless someone has moved past us) and it's about 1.5 KM's from the access point. There is 1 1/2 feet of ice out there, I'm going to bring the kids out for a fish this eve........
Good luck,

Point?
Hey Smitty what's the word? We are going to move shop tomorrow. The fishing has been slow where we are situated. A couple of decent eye's but just averaging a couple a trip and they are mostly small.
When you say "Point" are you talking about the point as in the last one to the west before you head out to the main channel/the island? If so what type of ice is there?
Thx

heya CCLad . yea we went out yesterday to the point . Stopped at the last shack to talk to the lads there . We parked inside the point at first and walked out with the auger but there's a good 10" of ice so we brought the truck out . One thing I found funny was that there was not much current . Fished 7-8 fow and got one wee one and lost a one pounder at the hole . that was it . Didn't try jigging tho . Not even a ling and we were the last ones off the ice by 8 . I would suggest going out further from shore to find 9-11 ft . You should be able to see where we were fishing . might even find a haversack that didn't make it back lol . Back in the past there always used to be at least a couple of shacks out there , conditions permitting . A guy named Gord with a black Bronco was a regular . Best spot on the bay imo . cheers and good luck

Thanks for the info
Thanks for the info Smitty. As I said we are moving the hut today and we will press on that direction. I don't think I'm going to drive out that far yet, we will use the sled for now. I agree that area can really produce. That said, take a good look at a map of the bay there are shoals in that area (east and north) that can produce unsafe ice. know where your going buddy!!
The lack of currant is probably related to the release of water by the hydro damn up river (IMO) That said, with a large spill the ice can change due to the currant. be safe, as you did last time check your way out.
See you on the ice.
