Need some tips!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Might have to wait a while for the Ottawa. I hear the river is still running very high and the current is MUCH stronger than normal. I'd be extremely hesitant to take a boat I don't know inside and out on that kind of water, particularly not knowing its reliability in a crunch. Around Treadwell (on Friday) one guy told me his GPS said his drift was around 7km, last year it was around 1 to 2km. Moving 7km/h with the motor dying or not wanting to start on demand could be a serious problem in those kinds of currents. Being on a river is a different animal than a lake. For now I'd suggest hitting some lakes till the Ottawa calms down and you know how your boat handles.

The nearest lakes that I like, would be the Mississippi (though I usually skip it because its so shallow), Silver Lake, Sharbot, White, Calabogie, Rideau lakes, to name a few. Most of them have either free or reasonably priced launching sites that are easy to find.
