Good day,
I currently have a 2011 Kia soul and I'm looking to put a hitch on it and buy a 14ft aluminum with a 15-20hp on it. It seems the only class hitch available for my car is class 1. Would this be enough to pull a boat? I wouldnt be pulling it overly far but im unsure as to what a 14 footer with a motor would weigh. Any and all advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris

I don't see you having an issue. I've pulled around an aluminum boat with a camry (4-cylinder) and i have seen numerous people with a sunfire and/or cavalier even civics pulling a boats around.
Now that being said, I am not a mechanical or a car expert at all

Class 1 hitches are rated for a gtw of 2000 pounds so the hitch would be enough for a 14 foot boat with a 15 on it no problem. The better questions is what is your vehicle rated to tow? I don't imagine you will have issues with that size of boat, but check your owners manual before doing anything just so you know if you are going to void any warranty should something to wrong while towing. I say this because I have friends with a Mazda 6 wagon with a v6. It has the power to tow a boat like what you want, but it is not recommended for towing anything. It doesn't even provide a weight.
I saw a guy pulling a 17 foot Larson fibreglass inboard boat out of big Rideau with a Kia rondo this weekend. He could barely get it off of the ramp and will probably need a new transmission in a few years. That is what you don't want to do.

Hey,
It says im good for 1500 lbs. So I'm assuming i would be ok, I would just need to choose my boat launches accordingly!
