no Dealers Trade?

Post by xRED »

was looking around for a new boat,
currently have a 2000 lund with a honda outboard.
I am actually looking to down size as
80% of the time i go alone and 19 is alot of boat,
can get up and stretch though...lol
just be easier to handle on trailer too.
Also I have been storing the boat every winter at a friends because the
Lund won't fit in my back yard and is 2 feet to long for my garage.

called a dealer in Ktown who was advertising a new 16.5 lowe wt with a 90 merc.
talked to the guy told me price and features as soon as i mentioned trade
he told me the price is so low we won't do a trade...
I'm like huh, he said price was so low that for the promotion they won't do trades.
He said he get the boss to call back...guess what no call back.
Too bad considering I could just pay cash for boat but i don't have the room to have
2 boats until the lund is sold.

Guess my search is still on.
I will finish out the year with the Lund and maybe try
again next year at the boat show or I buy a bigger place with more property.
New boat is prolly cheaper...lol

I was just wondering if it is normal for a dealer not to want to trade.
His loss really, I will look around Lund doesn't really have anything in 16-17 foot I like.
And no one seems to have any stock any way.

I do like the Prince 164 WS though.
thats my rant....
keep your pole in the water........

Can I get some details on that Lund you've got?

But to answer your question....

Harley-Davidson will not normally even work on a bike older than 2000 now.
If you have a pre twin cam motor forget it....they don't stock the parts.

I saw a guy trying to trade in a Sportster....
The guy had poured TONS of cash into the bike to "modify" it...
Sadly most of it rendered the bike so that it would cost a lot to get it safetied.

He was LIVID with the sales staff as they logically explained...and basically said..."No thanks"

With the new 2014's and the Rushmore motors (to compete with Indian/Polaris's new 111c.i powerhouse) including showrooms full of bikes they really don't need trade ins.

The boat market has kinda tanked. A lot of marina's can't sell them for much over cost.

When you figure mortgages are high due to house prices, average car is over $30k, property taxes are high and 50% of the male pop pay child support or alimony..an extra $200+ a month (not including insurance) makes it hard to sell toys...

Snowmobiles? Forget it!

I was told that at a car dealership not too long ago.

I was looking at a Chevy Avalanche that he took in on trade and gave out way too much money for. He had no room to move within the Avalanche and didn't want to take the risk.

I don't think it is common that they say no, but when you look at the difference in even the interest rates you can get between a new vehicle and a used one, it probably just didn't make sense for them to take your trade. My advice would be to finish the year in the Lund and then try to sell it before satoring it for the winter. When the boat shows come around. figure out exactly what you want then.

I bought a new boat from Ward's a few years back. Took my old boat for a trade, no problem. Actually, I was pretty happy dealing with Ward's at the time. I'm not thrilled with the parts counter, but I can get parts anywhere. Used Merc Parts Express a few times. Works great.
