Ice Reports

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I figured people would have been out this week, but I wasn't expecting that yet!

Btw, how did Shirleys treat you last year? Cheers
Hey Smitty,

Last year we had a good season going until we moved our hut father out. For what ever reason we just never parked our hut on a good spot. Fishing was S-l-o-w but we got the odd one.
How did u make out?

That's too bad CClad. It's one problem with a shack. If you're on a bad spot you still tend to stay with the shack. If I recall you moved to a point on the outside corner of the bay.
Myself, I was on disability with a broken back last winter so I didn't get out much. I'll make up for it this year. :)

Today's catch, the first hardwater smallmouth for yours truly, and the last for the bass season. Won't be fishing these guys again until the ice is long gone.

With the purchase of an older sled and ATV I am hoping to get out on Lower Rideau and other locations this winter --- starting next weekend I hope.
Last winter I was on Mississippi Lake, White Lake and Madawaska Lake near Arnprior - but had to walk out with gear and that kind of took the fun out of it.
Stood on shore at other places and looked at the shacks way way out in the distance ... too much of a chicken to take my truck out on the ice.

I drove up to Shirley's Bay yesterday (Sunday) around 3pm and nobody was fishing there although it is frozen over out pretty far. I have no clue the ice thickness but since there was no one fishing I assume it must still need a few more days to thicken up. -20 this am should help.

Looks like my time spent on the ice is going to be reduced due to work and coaching... That said, stay in touch smitty, the more info the better!

Hello there,

Anyone know if the ice in the Ault Island area is thick enough yet to fish?

At my end of the Ottawa we had 6-10 inches of ice two weeks ago and it hasn't changed since. Lots of slush but this cold spell should help.

Re: Ice Reports silver lake

Post by steve_rauch »

was out on silver lake on saturday, there was a good 10' of black ice and a few inches of the white ice in 50 fow.
just in case anyone wants to venture out and watch the trout follow your bait all day and not touch it

The snowbank is high and i couldn't get in there with my truck, so you have to park along the highway. Just be careful lots of people not paying attention out there
