Bass Season Opener

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

You go to Michigan and you can bass fish(catch and release only) in like April but that imaginary line makes the fishing different on the same water body. I guess the fish don't like waiting at the border like us lol

Well................I have been told, and I do believe it, that bass guarding the bed are highly aggressive, and if they are removed, even for a short time (as in C&R), the eggs/fry can be gobbled up in no time flat by bluegills and other species. I do see a LOT of bluegills in the shallows in late spring/early summer and have no doubt that they would be delighted to hoover up a bunch of bass fry.

So until somebody can point me to peer-reviewed science that shows me that this view is incorrect, I am adamantly opposed to an "early" season.

AND I wish the MNR had enough muscle to target the (MOSTLY AMERICAN) anglers who fish lakes local to me, pretending to fish for pike but actually targeting bass on the beds. I will be out on the water for bluegills or crappies or whatever, and I see these jack-asses in their bass boats, tossing obvious bass baits to shorelines that clearly have no pike.

It can happen innocently to anybody fishing in the spring (or even in the winter), that a person catches an out-of-season bass, maybe even two. If you catch two OOS bass, it's time to up lines and move on, not stay and hope to catch more.

LOL
I could point out countless Bass fishing trails, clubs, leagues and websites that have everything to do with Bass fishing all year round and would prove the immense fishing pressure the southern lakes get.
Why Bass? My answer is that I know how to catch them, I also like to fish where they live..

Nothing cooler then flipping a shore line and pulling a monster out from under a log :!:

As for everything else, I've never tried fishing for them... Except for Pike and walleye.

Fishing for Reds is fun and all but it still doesn't take the place of bass fishing

Absolutely .... it's a no brainer .... If I'm flipping for a possible 5-6lber Bass, I'm possibly winning $1,000
