I made it out Saturday too. My buddy took us out about 1.5kms from the shore. Still well over 1' of ice. Didn't catch anything huge but landed 7 fish. Walleye, sauger and a few of these stinky things:
How are the snow levels/drivability at Shirley's? Last time I was out there it was fairly deep and slushy underneath so I'm wondering if conditions have improved or if its rutted and rough. Is it passable in a smaller car?
Money can't buy you happiness but it can buy you fishing gear and that's kinda the same thing.
You definitely need a truck out there now. I have a Sante Fe and got stuck but was luckily able to back my way out, I saw a few guys last week in pick-up trucks needing a push. My buddy drives a Ford Explorer 4WD and had no issues going out pretty far and back. Constance Lake, however, is a whole different story. Was there on Wednesday and guys were driving out there in cars, no real ruts or deep snow on the lake. Bite was ok too: 2 pike, a crappie and LM bass.
I am thinking of taking my truck out on Shirleys Bay on Saturday March 14. Anyone on their recently? we are still getting good cold nights so I was wondering if it is remaining firm???
I have 4WD and good ground clearance (thanks to my new truck!!!)
