looking for boat advice and on Gananoque river waterway

Post by ryan winter »

I ve been thinking of replacing my boat with something newer. I have found a potential purchase, 2013 out of the show room princecraft 16 dlx ws holiday with a 75hp fourstroke merc. One of my concerns is that its too much motor for my waterway. I am on The Gananoque river waterway system and wonder if the motor is too powerful. I know that there are several people on this site that are well aware of the area and I hope they can give me some advice. I am thinking I maybe I would be spending extra money for power I dont need. Thanks, any other advice on things to consider before I purchase a boat would be greatly appreciated.

I would say you might be able to get a little over 40mph out of that setup. If that is what the boat is rated, I would recomend you go with it. It is always better to have the power when you need it than not have the power when you want it. If you wanted to go with a smaller engine, I wouldn't recomend anything smaller than a 60 so you really won't be talking about much if a difference.

Go for the 75hp, maybe you'll need it when you're on some other lake/river..
Like Adam said, betteer to have the power and lay off the gas then to need it and not have it..

I'm not familiar with the Gananoque River, but I wouldn't sweat the HP at all. Like the others have said, you can just back off the throttle when needed and run at less than wide open. Truth be told, the more HP you have, the easier you'll be able get on plane and hold it at lower RPM's. That's a good thing.
