So... What are you guys looking forward to trying this year?

Just what the title says....anything and everything related to Rods, Reels, Terminal Tackle, Plastics, what others are using, what works, what doesn't work, and anything else you want to talk about regarding equipment.

I've added 2 more set-ups sense my original post. An 805cbrm/6.2:1 Metanium that I picked up today and a 683SF/2500 Sustain that I picked up 3 weeks ago. Here is my 2014 line up.

If you are into cranking as much as I am, that rod will probably be one of your favorites.
Paired with the Metanium, it should be a killer combo. 8)

Sweet combos for sure.
One question though.......why would you have everything all spooled up and even with lures tied on?? I get we are all antsy to get out but seems pretty early for all of that, by the time opener comes around that line will most likely be full of memory. Not trying to "stir the pot" or imply anything, just curious.

Your right it is early but I'm pumped about my new stuff so I've been tying a bunch of different stuff on and i'll surly change them up again before the opener. There spooled because it got my reels from Paddletales and Ed always spools them up for you. I have KVD line conditioner on all my flouro so I'm hopping memory won't be to bad. As for stirring the pot and implying anything I most definitely think your implying something and I know what it is. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pi$$ed right now!

Alright, think what you want, be pi$$ed. I could care less. I wrote I wasn't implying anything because I wasn't implying anything, if I were I would say so. You have to write that on this site because people are so sensitive, you obviously haven't been around here long enough. Maybe it was for the photo, I don't know. Jeez
Enjoy those combos because they are really sweet.

PS - I want to try the KVD line conditioner at some point.

No worries man. Yes you did answer the question.

I'll keep this going with a small taste!
Here are a couple of poppers I've wanted to try for at least a few years now.

Don't feel out of your league. This thread was created to see what you are excited to try!

I think I have to throw up a new update because I have a few new additions since my original post.

Exactly Adam. Well said. Sawchuk there is no need to feel intimidated by these "gear heads" or "tackle hoes" (with all due respect, as I never buy junk) who spend huge bucks on high end tackle. Now would we all like to have these beauty outfits? Damn right, I sure would, but most fishermen don't need or aren't willing or able to spend that kind of coin. Doesn't mean we enjoy fishing any less. Everyone one has a price point based on priorities.

Now under similar conditions there is no doubt that the high end stuff can help, especially rods. But so often it's much more about being at the right place at the right time, with the right presentation. Doesn't matter dick sometimes if you're using a $100 or a $500+ outfit. But it certainly is best to use quality gear always if you can. Even then, sometimes something as simple as a hook and worm/leech/minnow with a split shot and a float will put Pickerel in the boat when nothing else will. Or simply tossing a tube for smallies with a $90 outfit on sale for $50. And how many guys have had their wife/girlfriend outfish them with a spare rig. You never know.

It's really all about going out and having fun isn't it. I still really look forward to something as basic as going out and picking worms, and then going barbot/mudpout fishing with hand lines, big hooks and heavy sinkers. Off shore or in a boat, don't matter. Then hopefully catching pails full to enjoy fresh and then freeze a good whack of them.

I find that often the simplest things in life are the most satisfying. No need to complicate things. I don't tend to look too far ahead, but for now I'm looking forward to keep my spring traditions going, like barbot... , crappie, fiddle heads, leeks and new this year I'd like to add catching some suckers to "can" so I can try it as a different preserve, so to speak. Just something different to try. Apparently it can be quite good. Morels would be nice to try and harvest. Never tried that before

I hope I'm still sorta on topic here Adam. 8) For this summer I would like to spend more time for Lakers on Charleston Lake. I modified my leadcore technique last year which worked great for getting more hits, but getting solid hook penetration ( with brand new "self hooking" trebles), was a definite issue. Last time we were out 2 Greys came off in the net, one came off about 10 ft from the boat and of course the biggest of the morning came off 5 colors back as the boat turned in the wind and created too much slack. Oh well hehe...That's fishing. We still got 5 to the boat. So it's time to tweak the system. I look forward to trying... :D

Cheers
