Report a Poacher

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

With apologies to the OP. Some folks here get kicks out of taking threads sideways.

Mav I guess to you assault is nonsense right? No need for cops? What if he had of poked TheDon in the eyes or face? Would it still be a waste of time for you? Where is your line?

Really pops? Please elaborate. Perhaps you have something pertinent to add to this thread instead of coming to the aid of your boy.

No matter what the case, taking pictures of people without their permission is not cool, and it is also not cool to presume to be qualified to do a C.O.'s job, based on watching episodes of Cops. Conservation Officers deserve a bit more respect than that.
I have seen people poaching. I have let them know it is poaching and that they could get fined etc. And if you felt so inclined you can call the MNR poaching hotline. Other than that you are stepping out of bounds and any C.O. or Cop would tell you so.
And trying to pat your own back and bully somebody online is definitely not cool.

Here’s more,

Border line racial comments have no place on Fish-Hawk.
Wether he be European, Asian, Black or Gay…..we’re all anglers, period!

Also to be noted, tournament fisherman always oblige with morals and ethics, therefor the situation would of been handled differently.

Engrossed behaviour, to the detriment of this forum, shouldn’t be encouraged.

L-O-L!!!!

The funny thing is the vast majority of people DO NOT KNOW how to defend themselves let alone fight.

Let me guess....he hit me with a fishing pole and I'll punch him in the face right?

How many of you have actually struck someone in the face??? HHHHmmmmmm????

Because fact is the human skull is 50 times harder than concrete....so guess what,,,now you've shot your mouth off over something and now have a broken hand or wrist (after decking the guy) and guess what???? Now the cops will nail you for assault!

You may get lucky and not hurt your hand (doubtful) but now you're the one the cops will want and not the guy "poaching"

Or, you've cut your knuckles on his teeth....so now his saliva has mixed with YOUR blood....How do you know they don't have HIV, hepatitis???
Transmission of HIV this way is low (there is 1 recorded instance in Canada of a police officer contracting it this way) but hepetitis for sure...

Or worse...you mouth off to the guy and he says "Oh yeah?" and then out comes a knife and you get slashed or stabbed and possibly die because they've gashed an artery....Don't think it can happen? Think again.

All this over what? Your firm belief it was YOUR place to do anything?

Again..call the cops the MNR but DO NOT GET INVOLVED.....

To the OP. I truly praise you for standing up for your beliefs and what is right. However you are very lucky all this crazy A-hole did was hit you with a fishing rod (even then I doubt you expected that!) but next time it could be a much worse outcome for you.

Its too easy to sit behind your keyboard, drinking your coffee and drip with machismo....howver, last x-mas a gent I know (in his late 50's) was pulling into a parking spot at Bayshore. He and his wife were going shopping.
Some dude, who was speeding all over the lot, frantically looking for a spot tried to beat this couple to their spot. He didn't make it in time.
So the man and his wife got out of the car and BOOM the guy had his hands around the man's throat. The only reason he let go was because the wife was screaming and had her phone out to call the cops....all this over a parking spot at xmas.

The man was so shocked he just froze...he had NO idea what to do.

Big difference when your behind a keyboard and when its actually happening.

Be safe guys.
Some real psycho's out there.

Slow morning at work Jimmy :?: :|

The safest thing to do is educate, diffusing a situation or stopping someone is up to the authorities. Report, Report, Report...

Kinda like the kids that think it's cool to do 70+km/h in front of my house, where the speed limit is 30km/h.
I could stop them, confront them (I've done this in the past), I even thought of adding a speed bump ( I have one in my garage ready to go) but what if they don't see it coming then loose the control of their car and end up plowing through a house?
If you're going to do something, be very aware that it'll bite you in the ars.

ShawnD,
All that effort on your boat over winter, and still referring to it as a speed bump.... C'mon man, don't be so depressed with this crazy rain on opening day dude!

Just wanted to correct one point Jimmy. Yes most bones are stronger than concrete but not 50 times stronger...Infact, for size all bones are much stronger than concrete. About 8 times. They're flexible, lightweight and super hard. Yet will break if alot of force is given. A thigh bone can withstand about a tonne of stress before snapping. This depening on a person's health. The lower joint of a femur, pretty much impossible to break with a hammer, yet hollow bones will break with a brick, slab of concrete or a hammer. The toughest bone in the body is the femur also not the skull and I know you didnt say the skull was...due to the sections of the skull being fused together as we grow skulls are strong but have very weak points at these intersections making it lower on the list of strongest to weakest bones.

Now back to the main post. I have no opinion on this and just felt like coming into this and changing the topic of this brutally repetive post that is beaten to death multiple times in a year. You want quicker responses from a C.O. donate a few million dollars to the MNR and you may see an improvement in times. Here is the real question...Does anyone know how many C.O's are within a 300km radius of us?? If it is less then 12 then what do we expect. If there was only 12 police officers in this area do you think they would get to anything in under an hour?? As for the feel good side of this and if you did the right thing I would say yes you did the right thing in trying to educate this gentleman and if he chose to ignore your eductational influences then you can at least feel good that you made an effort which by the sounds of some on here they would not do. I guess there is a difference between the keyboard hero's and real life hero's...Well now my whole perspective on keyboard hero's has changed....lol
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

I'm more of a mouthy/kill him with sarcasm kind of guy... so my approach would have been different, but I appreciate that you reported him.

I know some will label you as a "rat"... but those people would rather be tough guys than look after our resources. With poaching... 'live and let live' is a great way to watch your lake get emptied.

I'll never forget the guy who literally had a garbage bag of fish from White Lake... some of these bass were so small he couldn't get a filet (which he hacked with his electric filet knife as fast as he could—presumably so he could get the heII out of there). And I couldn't believe it... he actually said the words "the fishing here isn't as good as it used to be".... I was 12 at the time, and that's the precise moment when I realized not all adults had life figured out.
