Shore Fishing Mooney's Bay?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Shore Fishing Mooney's Bay?

Post by SakranMM »

Anyone ever caught anything from shore? I'm talking about the stretch along Riverside drive near Walkley towards the beach, then along the shoreline and lock around Hog's Back Falls....I have never had so much as a nibble anywhere here, except for once last year when I hooked a small walleye on a spinnerbait, but he dropped off as I was reeling him in.

I spent an hour fishing off the dock the pirate ship launches from last year without a nibble.

I should add that I have seen pictures and talked to people who have caught carp by the rowing club.

While I have not personally fished there, I have spent time there and across from monies bay, there was an old farm with a spot on the river called puppy beach by the local Dog lovers.
If I recall there is a lot of good structure over there. Now I am not sure if you can get there as I believe it is all developed now. But there must be some sort of public access still.
As for hogs back. Look for eddies, or slack water and fish those holes. They will be holding heavily oxygenated fish likely and may be a little slow to hit so don't pull your lure to quick.

I've fished mooneys for years, It's not a good spot if you want to find numbers but I've caught the odd 3+ pound smallie and walleye out of there. My buddy caught a 25 inch walleye there 2 years ago as it got dark and that was the only fish we got that evening.
