I got on the ice from Father Point Rd, it was a bit sketchy but i didn't find any ice less than 4 inches. I walked a good ways out but stayed away from the middle, fished from 5-15 feet of water and only managed to catch a few perch.
I was marking fish all day, tried using medium minnows, waxworms, rippin raps, soft plastics, but the bite wasn't on. It was great to get out on the ice finally, but always take extra caution this time of year.
Good news about the ice! Did you hook weeds? Were they brown or green? What depth did you get perch? Did you stay 30 mins past dark? All... my good walleye came from that time. What were you targeting?
I've only fished Mississippi lake in the summer and was mostly going to bass...Saw thousands of bluegill surface... And got a few huge perch... I wouldn't know the first thing about that lake in the winter...
This year I spent most of my money on beer, women and fishing...the rest I wasted.

The perch were caught in all depths but most were in 10-12 feet, I've never fished that area so i was looking for whatever i could find but i was hoping to get some eyes or crappie. We did stay into dark thinking the eyes might move in but nothing went on, lots of follows but no bites. I've caught some good fish in other parts of the lake but i wait until the ice is thick enough to drive on.
Was wide open when I looked out the backyard this weekend.
Then again I am not on a bay. I'm still going to give it a few more weeks, certainly if we get that big snow dump starting tomorrow. Should weaken ice conditions for sure!
I made it out to the Miss last night, found 6'' of ice...we caught 6 Walleye
and released a 6lber. It was a night of sixes...lol
Be careful and stay clear of the channel!!

there is a public boat launch there.
it's at the 9th line of beckwith just around where it turns into tennyson rd, just past Johns marina. the launch is at the end of the street and parking is at the stop sign at the top of the road.

THE ROAD IS CALLED LOON LANE .... DIDN'T REALIZE THAT WAS FATHERS POINT
I went out to check the ice this weekend at Gardiner shore.
Ventured out about halfway across the bay and was at least 7 inches of solid black ice everywheye I checked.
Only fished for a couple of minutes just to say that I had.
I imagine after the slightly warmer temps they are calling for at the start of this week it will be game on for sure.
I went out at fathers point on Tuesday lost a walleye at the hole but found 5-6 inches of ice everywhere I drilled. Ventured out about 100 yds from shore. Heading back out tomorrow to get that eye thru the hole.
This week put a hurting on the ice where I'm at.
Places that were 7 inches of solid black last weekend are maybe 6 inches of crap soft white ice with lots of slush in places.
This is at the bay off of Gardiner shore. Could be better in other places.
