Sand Lake near Elgin

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Sand Lake near Elgin

Post by Alby »

Hi all,

A friend of mine just bought a cottage on Sand Lake, near Elgin.

Anyone have any experience with this lake? I'm told there are bass in it, just not sure if these were mainly smallies, or largies, or....

I'm a soft water fisherman, no ice fishing for me. Looking to spend some time at their cottage this summer, and fish this lake a bit.

Any advice would help. Thanks gents!

Fish On-Line shows Smallmouth, Crappie, Perch, Rock Bass and Speckled Trout???? An error I'm sure with the trout.

Grew up in the area and still visit from time to time to see friends. Where abouts on the lake is your friends cottage? The lake is predominantly a largemouth lake but also has a good smallmouth population. Like most of the Rideau lakes in the area, pike, perch and crappie are present as well. No speckles as mentioned above however, believe it or not, there has been the occasional incidental catch of splake that have made it down from Indian thru Opinicon and into Sand.
