Big Lures, Big fish....

Post by Guest »

well last night I went down to my favorite shore spot for some top water muskie action. I had one nice blow up and pulled the bait from the fish ( classic mistake)...

About a half an hour later a see a muskrat swimming in front of us. My bussy and I admired the cute creature and watched as it paddled by. I look in front of the Muskrat and see a huge swirl then BAM! a giant muskie takes the muskrat under the water with a splash like a cow falling off a cliff. We casted a few more times and realised the big toothy critter was probrobly full.

So if you ever look at your bait thinking it might be a little too big, have another look into your box whoever is sitting in the weed bed in front of you might be reall hungry

Crazyhook

I too have seen this phenomenon, I was out in a back bay with my girlfriend two weeks ago on Balsam Lake at about 6:30 am casting into the heavy weeds and all of a sudden there was this big ruckus. I see this small duck coming out of the tall weeds in the back of the bay trying with all he had to lift off the water but he seemed to be having some trouble lifting off, following right behind him was a wake that looked like it was coming off a 25' Deep V Hull, it followed him around behind some more
tall weeds and went out of my sight. My girlfriend wanted to know what was going on and when I told her she didn't believe me that a Musky would eat something that big. Now she doesn't want to swim in our lake for fear that a big Ski will snap at her butt.
I should have told her something else.
She told my sister who is an avid animal lover and she freaked out, it seems that she has been feeding a family of ducks from the dock every weekend and the ducklings are very small, there used to be eight of them and every weekend the size of the family gets smaller, there are only two babies left.
Survival of the fittest eh.

Afew years ago the Noth-bay nuget (local news paper) published a picture of a duck siting on the water. The next pic was of the duck bing attacket by a Mr.muskie .
Being a hunter as well as a fhisherman I can imagin the size of this fish.
Whith its mouth wide open it grasped the duck by its body.

When i fish muskie i allwas say go big or go home.

dont give up he found a snack there he'll be back for more

I have heard tale of a muskie pulling under a small (miniature) breed dog several years back. Wasn't sure I believed it, but I guess why not? Seeing the size of some of these brutes you all have posted, and knowing there are even bigger ones out there, I guess it's perfectly feasible!

I love those fuzzy little ducklings and cute muskrats, too. But I'm guessing the muskie love 'em even more! 8) Hey, it's nature.

sad thing is this is the second time I have seen this. I actually have two pictures ( not scanned) of a duck swiming across very calm water then I leaned down to tie on a bait and WHAM! duck gone. So I have a before and after shot

I'm not so sure I'd like to be dangling my toes over the side of the boat or dock in big muskie waters.
