Can someone tell me when it is a good time to launch a boat and fish the Manotick area? and when are the launches set up there?

Still ice on the shoreline through most of the Rideau River. It is just a matter of days now till you can get the boat wet in the Rideau.

Most streams are open with some minor ice. Spent 30 minutes trying ut the water seems to be too cold.zippyfx wrote:Hopefully not to longI will be doing an ice check today.
Was approached by our friendly neigbourhood conservation officer and "carded"; He was a nice guy we chatted for a bit.
The rideau is opening up.... open water from hunt club southward.
South of Manotick ctenre channel open but shores still iced up.

Won't be long before the pannies start moving in, i checked a creek yesterday and was surprised to see a few suckers and minnows already starting to move in. The main river still has some ice but with this weather it shouldn't be there long!

Hey guys and gals, just curious about a couple of crappie colours here, any suggestions on what the ticket might be for some Rideau crappie?

I have not found spring rideau crappie particularly picky. I have caught them on all colour plastics, worms, and small minnows, and ultra light cranks.
Chartreuse seems to be the colour of choice recommended by most.
I think the leagendary finiskyness of crappies mostly takes place after the spwan when they go deeper and tend to just hunker down. I don't fish for them much post spawn.
Many places have a tube/grub sets with many colours which may be the best way to go.

Like mentioned I don't think color is all that important. I prefer brighter colors, mostly white hues so I can see my jig disappear as I rarely use a float.OutdoorActionOntario wrote:Hey guys and gals, just curious about a couple of crappie colours here, any suggestions on what the ticket might be for some Rideau crappie?

I've seen days where a particular color worked best. Sometimes it was white, others it would be chartreuse. Some days it doesn't matter much. But without fail, the first thing I tie on when fishing the Rideau is a red/white or pink/white mini tube jig.

RJ I'm curious why you don't use a float very often for crappies?
