I do enjoy shopping at a bass pro shop, but I'd hate to see too many of them popping up. Kind of takes away from the "event" experience when you visit one if there's too many of them. The SE ON market would be a great location for on though.

Re: Bass Pro No Go
I’d be curious to know what numbers the Vaughan store is producing in comparison to its US stores.
That being said, Bass Pro successfully expanding to Ottawa was a long shot Imo.
Profitability forecast for Target stores were somewhere around 2020, the expansion cost of taking over roughly 100 Zellers and significantly lower sales than expected, made this US retail chain come crashing down relatively fast.
Moving goods across the border and dealing with customs in order to bring inventory into Canada probably didn’t help as it requires significant resources.
Bass Pro is somewhat of an overrated store, the aquarium is nice, they have fancy rack displays, yet we stepped out with only a few packs of hooks.

Not the end of the world and I agree with THEMAVERICK in that it was a long shot. There were warning signs it wasn't going to happen from the get go but it just seemed to get worse and worse weekly almost.
It wasn't going to change where I shop anyway. Customer service has always been something I have found lacking in bigger stores. The people working there might (if you are lucky) know a bit about what they are talking about chances are usually not in your favor.

Does Cabellas still plan on opening the location across from where the Bass Pro Shops was supposed to be?

From what I heard (on the radio), that was one of the main reasons BPS pulled out, because they both would have been close to each other.daveh_cdn wrote:Does Cabellas still plan on opening the location across from where the Bass Pro Shops was supposed to be?

I hope this is true. They carry lots clothing for fishing for women that other places just don't carry. This makes Tia a happy girlRiver Monster wrote:Cabelas will still be opening a store.

Re: Bass Pro No Go
very sad news I have been to bps in vaughan and it was awesome! Store looked amazing, very cool aquarium and wall ornaments, not to mention the assortment of tackle they had. How does Cabela's stack up in regards to lure selection? I'm hoping they sell some american products it's tiring going to walmart and canadian tire seeing the same stuff year after year.
Re: Bass Pro No Go
I think BPS is for fishing while Cabelas is for fishing and hunting. So i would think stocking of store would be seasonal.

I have first hand information (supposed to be confidential) that Cabelas has applied for their building permit with the city. Let's just keep this between us...
