transporting Minnows

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

transporting Minnows

Post by Big Bass Buddy »

Good day all

I am heading to the small rideau on August 21st for a local fishing derby at the in-laws cottage (camp groud). I want to take minnows, but not sure how to get them their without killing them. I am leaving Friday night and will be fishing Saturday. I was also going to get some jars of Minnows, If i can find them. Do these work as well?

If I need a livewell or somehting to keep them in, any ideas how to rig a quick one up would be great, or if someone can lend me one that would be better. Not to big as need room for the fishing gear.

Thanks,

I have one of those Rapala air pumps, they run on 2 D batteries, I just hook it up to my minnow bucket and let it run. Now I use this mostly in the winter for ice fishing and havent really used it in the summer so temperature will be an issue for sure. You could just leave you bait bucket in a dedicated cooler and take it out to fish.
The pump is only about 10 to 15 bucks at the regular places.
Good Luck

I tried a week ago to keep my minnows alive using an air pump but they still died off quickly.

So colder water helps?

Use the aerator for sure. As far as the temp of the water goes fill a 2 litre pop bottle and freeze the sucker. Put the bottle in your bait holder and open the lid slightly. The cold water will seep out of it for half the day keeping the bait water low enough in temp to keep your minnows alive.
Oh yah,and if you can fill the pop bottle with lake water it is better than chlorinated tap water.
