Just want to thank everyone for sharing your hot spots and fishing success stories. I have really enjoyed reading your posts, and you guys have got me interested in fishing, having been away for many years.
Buoyed by your posts, I have gotten out over the last few weeks on the Ottawa River, between the Deschenes Rapids and the Island Park bridge, with considerable success. Launching my little yellow kayak from the Island Park parking lot or the next parking lot upstream, which I believe is the Kilpatrick Beach, I have dragged a floating rapella (silver) behind, hoping that I can paddle up to the rapids. So far, I have never reached the rapids, because bass, walleye and pike keep jumping onto the hook and slowing me down. They are not huge, with 16-18" bass quite common, small pike past the first point upstream of Kilpatrick's Beach. The Quebec side have been good for bass as well. The water has some wick shoals, but in a kayak or canoe is not a problem.
Every time I go out, I am amazed that I see no other fishermen; except for the odd person casting from shore.
Anyways, since you have all been so generous in sharing your experiences, I thought I would share my 2 cents worht as well.

Ottawa area fishing
The causeway on Calabogie lake is excellent for anyone handicapped.
I was there on wednesday and caught some nice Smallmouth about 30 feet past the first mini-bridge casting into the main body of the lake.
I've gone past that spot with a fishfinder and marked some big fish in about 15-20 ft of water.
Also, casting into Grassy Bay always provides some good Largemouth and plenty of smaller pike.
The best spot in the area for shore fishing has got to be Morris Island near Galetta. Take the 417 west for about 25 minutes and turn right before arnprior taking the road to fitzroy harbour. You'll drive past the town of Galetta(blink and you'll miss it). There is a sign posted that shows a conservation area, turn left and follow the windy road for about 5 minutes, and there is a sign to turn right into the Morris Island area.
Morris Island has large flat walkways that link alot of the bigger islands within that area and the boardwalks that link the islands have little fishing decks built for fishing. There are plenty of fish to catch within these islands, and I've never caught less than 20 fish in a 3 hour period ranging from Gar Pike at dawn and dust, to grass pike, large and smallies, and plenty of channel cats(more fight per pound than any fish out there).
If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a side trail right from the parking lot but its rougher ground, lots of little rocks sticking out the ground to a "look-out point" (about 5 minutes walk through the forest) and you'll be between an island and the shore.....super super spot.
I fished this area on thursday and caught a dozen fish in 2 hours, a 4+ smallie and quite a few over 2 lbs.
Also on a side note, as you reach Galetta there is a small power generating station on your right and houses on the left. Most of these homeowners and more than generous in letting you fish from their backyards into the water where the carp are quite plentiful so I'm told.

Thanks to all who helped with advice
My wife Ruth and I would like to thank everybody who gave us tips on fishing locations. So far we have visied the following locations; Petrie Island, Black Rapids, Brittania Beach, Pakenham, Calabogie and Arnprior. Have found good locations where Ruth can fish from a level area and have caught smallies at each location ( emphasis on the small but the fishing is always better than the catching 
). Any other hotspots with accessability for the handicapped would be much appreciated. Also suggestions where we might rent a boat with good stability would be great. Thanks again for all your assistance.Dave

You guys are great
Morris Island best yet. Lots of bass in 12 inch range and the occasional 3 pounder. Also odd pike and plenty of panfish. A super spot for anyone who wants to fish but can't handle the steep banks. On the way home we stopped at Galetta Power Dam and talked to a couple who had caught 5 cats in the 4-5 lb range. We will be stopping there for a few hours next time. Thanks for all your help with locations. I think we are hooked.Dave and Ruth
