Fished at 13 feet today from 11-5pm.lots of perch and sauger,1 walleye.about 20-25 between ,y buddy and i.
Dirty....mean....mighty unclean.

I just wanted to share a word of caution regarding Shirley's Bay ice. Yes, there's 10-12 inches, shakes are going up and people are anxious with the late start, but be care with how much weight you bring out. I drilled several holes yesterday and it was 8-10 inches of white ice and only 2 inches of black. Therefore the ice is not strong!

Regarding ice thickness, we set up our hut yesterday 12x8 big wood coloured hut - There is 5-6"s of ice were we are located....
That said, I dropped a couple of lines and ended up with a couple small sauger and a nice 3.5lbs walleye.... :D

Sounds like a sweet set-up!

My only concern is that you need about 10+ inches for a truck.
A 12 x8 wood shack is heavy enough, add a bunch of people....

Just be safe dude! Congrats on the 3.5lb eye.

Got out for a little over an hour this evening after work.. still working frozen minnows. 12 inch walleye and small pike (19-20 inches) both around 4:30 pm. Could also hear some excitement around me at the same time.

Not worried, the hut is about 500lbs but it is displaced weight 5-6 is good for sleds etc. Plus its made of wood with Styrofoam insulation! It ant sinking LOL!

Just a thought here fella`s..... Still be a bit before driving out in a vehicle can be done, but its going to get to that point eventually. Hopefully sooner rather than later as pulling my sled with a marine battery, gas auger, firewood pints etc.... Is a large pain in the butt

Anywho to my point. Would any of you fellow fish-hawkers, who fish Shirley's bay, have a good chain saw and a sledge hammer? They would take care of the 2 large ice build ups on the launch entrance pretty easily.....????

Any idea how that formed exactly in that spot? Pretty weird. Almost like someone tried to drive it a wee bit early and broke a slab sideways.

Too bad I'm not closer. I could bring two saws, a 5ft pinch/crow bar, an 8 lb maul, 8lb sledge, and a large splitting wedge.I could likely make it out Saturday afternoon if need be. Let me know.

Not the best picture but you can see the lumps... Must have formed during freeze up - They are solid chunks of ice. That said, a chain saw cutting into them like slicing bread and a sledge hammer would take care of them in no time at all.
