No fish in that lake
It's by far my favorite lake, I prefer to target smallmouth but there is a healthy population of both smallies and largies in BR. Smallmouth can be caught on the usual techniques, drop shot, jerkbaits and topwater. If your after largemouth, bring a jig.

Granted I don't fish there much but have spent a few days searching for smallies. As Brad pointed out, there is a healthy population of largies (and quite a few big ones too!) out there. If you plan on hitting it up, I would suggest closer to opener, the better (meaning opener or the next weekend or two). It's been hit pretty hard by the tournament scene the last few years and I don't see that changing this year either.
There are still plenty of fish to catch, I'm just letting you know. It is a gorgeous place to spend a day on the water regardless.

If I was ever to move and live on the water there'd only be one choice to me. Big Rideau.
Quality of both in the Lake. Largies and Smallies.

Cats out of the bag now.
Somebody mention a few little grease balls in there also.......... Lakers
Heard a few rumours about the odd Walleye hanging out in there.
Pan fish........ what are those tasty little specimens.
A great body of water for whatever you really want to tackle and bow bunnies on nice hot days.

I had been on BR a few times before, but last year was the first time I REALLY explored the lake. Definitely fell in love with it. If you're used to fishing small lakes, it's almost overwhelmingly big, but it's absolutely gorgeous. There plenty of fish too, and there's good quality bass of both species. I would recommend trying to catch both if you have time.

If I could fish only one lake for the rest of my days, it would be the Big Rideau.
Caught some decent largies but we prefer going for the Smallies.
