Shirley's bay 2016

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I find this ridiculous. Ling are not invasive, nor do they impact walleye stocks. :| :|

I know one thing about ling though......THEY TASTE BLOODY GLORIOUS!!! :D :D
I second that.... I highly doubt any CO would have said. Walleye and Ling have co-exited together in the region since the glaciers receded in the lat ice age.

A list of Ontario invasives can be found at:

Don't believe anything you hear about suckers, redhorse and other coarse/rough (non-sport) fish being invasive or detrimental to sport fish stocks: this is a good read:

I shouldn't have posted that, as it gave the impression that I agreed. He was probably just covering himself after I told him it was illegal to throw them in the snow and waste them. Ling are native to most of Canada and obviously co-exist. Agreed that they are delicious, I love catching ling. I'll talk to him again if I see him out there. I made a mean ling chowder last year, the meat was firm and delicious. I hope to catch some more this year!

Also- Nice walleye Choke!!

Cheers,

Lenny

On top of that, it's illegal to allow meat to go to waste, which is essentially what the MNR member seems to be advocating. Strange.

How is the trek out to the shacks now? I haven't been out since the dump of snow, then all of the rain. Has this latest cold snap helped the conditions any for someone like me who walks out and drags a sled? I'd like to get out for a bit this evening before this big storm screws it all up again.

I see animals on the ice around the huts during the night. I think they have learned that we tend to leave bait on the snow. Wouldn't be surprised if they got the occasional larger fish too from guys (like me) that leave them outside in the snow.

I have seen Fishers, Foxes and last weekend several coyotes.

Headed out today with choke quite far out from shore. The fish where finally biteing for me. Was starting to think I was jinxed. Every time I go out with choke we one get a few little perch.
Not this time.ImageImageImage

Lost a bunch at the hole... But also lost a monster. Mental not don't use cheep 4lb test with tight drag at dark....... At least choke got a good laugh. He is probably still laughing About it
