Baitcasters...
Baitcasters...
couple of questions... starting to look at getting one of these things (again)...
what's a "decent" reel and what would it cost? CanTire only has 2 listed... one at $99 and one at $59... I'd imagine I would want something a little better?
Does Baron Sport have a website (I think they used to... my old link doesn't seem to work, and I can't google a new one)?
They seem to be made to reel with your right hand... I've been using spinning gear forever, and always held the rod with my right, and reeled with my left... my spinning reel is interchangeable though, are these?
a decent set-up would be about $200? ($100 for the reel and $80 for a Bob Izumi shimano signature rod?)
cheers,
tallpaul

I have no idea where winchester (Paddletales) is (how far (kms & time) is it from Ottawa?).
also, since I have been using spinning gear... and casting with my right, and reeling with my left, wouldn't it be the same for baitcasting? I can't imagine casting with my left being any good?

Ed's
Take hwy 31(Bank st. south) and follow till u hit Winchester(about 25min from Hunt Club and Bank). Check out the directions on his web site.
http://www.paddletales.com/
He will be great help in finding what's right for u without breaking the bank and he stands behind what he sells 100%. Greta place and well worth the drive.

Sounds funny yes but I used to do the same with my spin gear and still do,but the baitcaster can fool you, trust me when I say to try em both left and right retieve.I fished a left hand retieve with Fishhawk a few weeks back and felt right out of my element
But still caught fish
Also Ed will do you the best for your buck too,And Winchester is about a 40 min drive out highway 31 http://www.paddletales.com/

I'm right handed... can't imagine reeling with my right hand though... all these years of spinning... reeling with my left seems... well... right.
even just trying to visualize/imagine it now... anyway... who knows, I'll just go with what feels right (proper)... and even if I have to get the C3 at $120... well, that and an $80 Bob rod will put me at the $200 mark/limit... plus line, plus new baits... but that stuff doesn't count.
hopefully make a run out there (paddletales) on the 28th...
cheers,

I bought an Abu Garcia 5600 Anti Backlash reel about 5 years ago, costing me $140 (american). It was great for learning how to use a baitcaster, and I've never had a problem with it, just oil and lube it every spring and after heavy use. I highly recommend Abu Garcia reels and I'm pretty sure LeBaron's has atleast one in the $100 - $150 range.

I bought an Abu Garcia 5600 anti backlash as well and it is good for learning. I also bought an Eon which I liked until I bouight my Quantum Energy PT E600. $205 at Le Baron which was the best price I could find in Ottawa and wow what a reel, worth the extra $'s. I liked it so much I bought a second one! My partner has tried several different bait casters as well and he likes the Quantum as well.
