A Crappie Walleye Opener = Dreams From Shore!!!
I'm not big on walleye fishing early in the season as I'm still heavily into trout fishing at this time of year. I'm more of a fall walleye guy and I never made a point to fish walleye on opening day. Well all I have to say is this: What was I thinking??? My buddy Alex and I had a great fall night season last year so we decided to give walleye opener a shot this year to see if our luck would continue... We arrived at a new spot for both of us along the banks of the mighty Gatineau river. It was a gamble to try out a new spot on the opener as we had no clue if it would pay off... We began fishing at 4am. By 4:03 we had 2 keeper walleyes on the stringer.
Then out of nowhere, Alex hooks into and lands a slab crappie! What? Crappies too?
And from then on, it was keeper walleye after slab crappie after keeper walleye after slab crappie.
A dream to say the least... We ended up catching 10 walleyes including 8 keepers and 10 slab crappies.
We weren't even bothering with netting the crappies but if we had, we probably would've doubled the amount of slabs... Of course, we lost many walleyes as well...
It was one of those rare outings where you could do no wrong and you almost feel guilty for laying such a slaying.
The thing is, I know that these special days are few and far between so I don't feel as guilty as I used to... It's just way too much fun to feel guilty!

Holy white flesh buffet.
You hit the jackpot there boys. Better keep that soot tight lipped and get back down there a couple more times real quick before the fish move out.
Slaying from shore can't be beat.

We always fish at crazy hours when targeting eyes from shore. We are creatures of the night. If there is daylight, we're not fishing for walleye. Those pics were taken once we stopped fishing because the action was too fast and furious to stop and take pics in the dark.Maple wrote:..........4:00 AM !!??.......
