Summer (Un)Success Grade?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

That is a tough call, I have been in a boat 8 times but have adapted to some fun shore fishing... cats, walleye, perch, bass (SM & LM) and pike all included. I really wanted a 5 lber this year, (not even certain I have had a solid 4) which has not happened but there is time and hope left...

need a boat to own my own destiny....

that 5 lb fish is waiting...

I'd say I've been a BIG FAT FAILURE so far this year. I've also only been out with something like an hour of daylight.

I'm going to be gone for 8 days though, in the huntsville area, going for rainbows and smallies. I'm so excited I can't think straight.

So far I have to give myself an F - I have never had a year like this, I have missed fish, I have lost fish on the way to the boat, and in general being on the wtare has been an exercise in futility so far. I hope to get out a few more times this year, but if the trend continues with all the money I spent on boat rentals, I could have eaten lobster every night for a week.

I was very luck to be introduced to this site and met many great anglers. Laketrout took me salmon fishing in Lake Ontario and we caught lots of salmon. Very successful.
I then went to Wiskey lake with him and we caught lots of lake trout. Very sucessful.
Being somewhat competitive, the vertual derby has me out fishing a lot more than usual . I have gone back to many fishing areas that I havent frequented in years and once again have been very successful.
Fishing in northern Alberta with my son is always successful as its simply a matter of who will catch the most and largest fish. [walleye and pike in Marie lake and rainbows in Little Bear}
Fishing in BC is always great particularily when the salmon are running. This year its necessary to work for the sockeye but the chinkook are much more plentiful.
For me, being retired and mobile its been a very successful year.

Any time spent fishing in Ontario is a great summer. To do this with your son AND father is FANTASTIC.

We fish WAY west of "you all" in the Atikokan area. Fished a lake that I never fished before mostly this trip. We fish for smallies. Numbers I felt were up, but size was not. We did not fish some of the lakes we usually do because others in the resort who did were not catching much. One group caught one fish and another did not catch any.

We also noticed that the fish were usually NOT where we have found them in the past and WERE where we would not expect them.

Oh, would like to thank everyone for making a "Yank from Oklahoma" feel welcome on this net. Learned a lot about fishing and enjoy lurking. This forum has a real "family" sense about it. Example, the excitement that everyone has when somebody gets a new toy. Whether it be a new rod/reel, boat, or whatever. Some boards you would get a lot of "you should have bought... and not that..."

Thanks from cousin Eagle

hey Wolfe, great thread. It's interesting reading about the various levels of success out there. I'd rate my summer so far (excluding weather) a B+.

It sucked at first but when I stopped using the techniques that always worked before and started trolling more everything changed. I'm convinced that the 3 tourney's on my lake messed up the bass fishing in the usual hot spots. I've been catching almost everything I've posted in 25 - 30 feet of water @ 1.5 mph. I figured out very early the trick is not to use the same colour more than 10 minutes. Keep switching until you find what they want that day.

This probably does not apply to other bodies of water but it's working for me. Good luck all in the second quarter.

This has been my best year yet, and every year just keeps getting better so I cant wait for next season all ready!!

Second time out for muskie I got that 50 inch muskie that everyone dreams about, including me for like 7 years!!! If she wasnt 50 she wasnt far off but since I released her Ill get her next year!!

Went down to the great lakes with Markus, had a great time catching my first salmon and my first rainbow that wasnt in a stocked pond and was bigger than 2lbs!

Went ice fishing for the first time at the beginning of the fishing season and uh oh, looks like im buying a hut this year so im gonna be out fishing some more now!! No more off season for Ransome :):)

Tony and I fished tournies this year! We didnt come close to winning any but we acheived our goals, and now I have the patience to fish with plastics, and now he has leanred the patience of flipping!! So cant wait for next year!!

And heck the season isnt even over yet!! Its just starting for them big gurls, so im gonna be all smiles by the end of fall im sure!!! :):) I predict at least one or two skies, on the first outing ahahahaha!!

Bring on the next fishing season!! Im all ready to go!
