fishing spots- Mattawa
fishing spots- Mattawa
Im getting ready for my 4 day outing on a houseboat in the Ottawa River coming up in a few weeks. I have never fished the Ottawa and would appreciate any tips or locations that anyone is willing to share. We will be aboard a 36' houseboat but will also have a 14' boat w/small outboard to help us get in the "tricky" spots. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

nofish- we are leaving the docks in Mattawa and thats about all I know. We will be afloat for 4 straight days so I dont mind traveling a good distance either direction. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated as I have never fished in Canadian waters and I would love to have some "spots" in mind before going on the trip. Thanks

If you have a 14ft. also, you might try under the RR bridge up from Mattawa, or near the dam. Keep an eye on the depth. We have taken some pretty nice pickerel in this area.
Down river several miles, ( I forget how many), there is a cement culvert feeding under #17 and into the Ottawa. This can be productive for pickerel and bass at night.
August is sometimes hard fishing in this area; is best early and late; but lady luck may smile, who knows.
If you can find weedy bays, spinner baits for pike work well. There are some bigguns there.
Hope this is some help.
Regards: Jigs.

first be carful ,, big current just outside of boat launch.
if you go upriver towards the dam, when you see a campgrd
on your left side (ont).that is a spot.
troll bot boucers tipped with leeches, also worms
heavy current again
down river. just past the train bridge you'll see boils there and a big current break still fish there
you can troll from that current break to the quebec shoreline d.r.
if you go about 8 k from launch on the ont side troll
keep going down on the quebec side you'll see a nice beach nice place
to camp and fish
if you get a map let me know and i'll relay the places
wally divers, husky jerks, tail dancers all work well
you hit walleye, pike sturgeon and the odd bass
have fun nofish
